Avast's messing with my Outlook email

Avast’s new update is being bothersome with my email – it’s saying “Suspicious Message!” when I’m SENDING to more than a handful of folks, whether in cc or bcc or otherwise. It’s also allowing only FIVE Word/Email Merge’s into my outbox at a time.

Does anyone know of a way to get into Avast’s settings and tell it everything’s okay, and to allow me to send to multiple cc, and to allow for a mail merge email project?

See if this post helps you.

Thanks, Alan!

I let Avast install itself with its own default settings. I think, by looking at the On-Access control panel, that Avast is using Internet Mail with Outlook 2003. The Outlook/Exchange setting says:

“The provider is waiting for a subsystem to start”

and there is no scan count, while the Internet Mail setting is “currently running” and there is a scan count.

What are the differences between the two services? How do I change from one to the other??

Stephen

Stephen,

a couple of questions if I may.

I am assuming from your reply that you are using Outlook 2003 … is that correct.

If so … when you start Outlook 2003 do you see a “splash” screen saying that avast Outlook/Exchange provider is starting?

When Outlook 2003 is up and running and you check the avast Outlook/Exchange provider is it still saying “waiting for a subsystem to start”?

Alan!

Yes, I’m using Outlook 2003. I did NOT see the splash screen.

Then, I found this thread:

and found that the Exchange provider was disabled by Outlook. I re-enabled it and restarted - it’ is running now…

Stephen

Very glad you found that … the avast Outlook/Exchange provider with Outlook is a far superior experience to that provided by the Internet Mail provider (which is not used when the Outlook/Exchange provider is active).
