Avast's Stand with Google Spreading lies about Microsoft

I installed Avast as a trial run on one device (of eight). Avast’s credibility already dropped 50% when I selected the “avast! Account - registration confirmation request” link.
My default IE broswer opened with the message from avast that to proceed I would need to install Google Chrome first (Which I also have installed as a secondary browser). The avast messge went on to tell me that (in essence) IE is not supported by Microsoft anymore.
This is a blatant outright lie, and avast knows it. There is a huge difference between no longer enhancing versions, and not supporting them!

I guess I’d like to know why avast has teamed up with Google with their terrorist tactics to defame and overthrow Microsoft…
It also makes me wonder if avast purposely writes code to NOT stop viral attacks on devices not defaulting to Chrome!
Avast’s credibility is definately on the line…

Google Chrome install is optional. It is opt-in by default. After installing (and rebooting) you get presented with a checkbox to untick if you do NOT want Chrome.
Could you post a link/screenshot of your second claim regarding IE is not supported by Microsoft?

Seriously, I don’t recall any such message. I don’t have Chrome, won’t have Chrome, and everything about Avast works just fine with IE (11 in my case) as far as I can see.

Support means security updates support, most probably.
Which version of IE are you using? And your Windows version is?

IE 8 or lower is not supported on Vista or higher. So yes, support for versions <9 has kind of stopped. (On XP) IE6 contains many vulnerabilities and Microsoft promotes updating to IE8. XP will be end-of-life per 8 april 2014.

So If you’re using any IE version under 9, Avast! was right…

Someone neeeds to take more time to read what is placed in front of them.

Avast warn you about old IE versions that are not supported, nothing more. ( and old versions of the IE browser are most definitely not recommended by Microsoft.) Nowhere does it say that IE is not supported by Microsoft.

Avast like all other security companies warn against the use of old/vulnerable software.

On this XP Pro SP3 system with IE8 (which I avoid using where/when ever possible) and I haven’t received any such warning from avast.

Announcements
