I’ve been very pleased with Avast so far, but about three days ago, I started getting popup messages that say AVASTSS.scr has encountered a problem and needs to close. There is much more detailed information describing the problem, but copying is not allowed, and I’m not going to retype pages & pages of data.
Possible cause: About three days ago I installed drivers for an older Logitech cordless optical mouse.
Has anyone encountered this kind of message? Does anyone know how to stop the messages, preferrably by fixing the problem.
Just because the moderators have deigned to classify me as a newbie, it doesn’t mean that I would waste your valuable time by not having searched before I posted. 8)
What a humour, Tesla! ;D Compliments: I like smiling people. Simply, I’m not able to say something cause I have no much elements by your post. Many times, when I have problems, before posting here I search in this Forum database. Is an enormous “warehouse” of solutions!
I forgot to add something: if you see below the space of the replies, you can read the short specs of my pc (others make the same). This is not for fill some free space but for better help who want help us when we ask for help. Watch the little globe below my avatar? click and see: is not for newbies; is for all. EDIT: Haha, funny, now I have Tesla nickname… and I am not responsible in any way for this fight between “real” tesla and Kamulko… besides, Kamulko aka Marco from Italy is my very good friend… besides, I am -Tesla, not tesla.
Hello Tesla and Welcome to forums !
AVASTSS.scr is your avast! screensaver, and the file is located in Windows/System32 subfolder.
a) Are you sure file is not corrupt ?
b) Is AVASTSS.scr set as your default screensaver ? If answer is YES, just set some other screensaver as default and see what happens after that.
c) if you suspect that file could be corrupt, let me know, and I’ll send you valid AVASTSS.scr file. It is 90.112 kb only
Btw, I don’t believe that those drivers for Logitech mouse have anything to do with this issue… It could be that just this particular file is damaged, or maybe (you never know) whole avast! installation was corrupt. Personally, I would try with avast! repair first…
Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, avast! Anti-Virus, Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.
If that doesn’t work try, uninstall, reboot, install, reboot.
I am having a similar problem with the Avast screensaver. Would you be willing to send me a copy of avastss.scr? I would really appreciate it. franklinparrish@comcast.net
Sent… just unzip it and place it inside your C:\WINDOWS\system32 subfolder… or whatever system folder you have on your OS (it’s different on some OSes)
Well, some more information would certainly be nice. It’s not needed to copy everything it’s there, but the faulting address and type of the error (should be right at the first page I think) is rather important.
