11 days and counting…

Has anyone gone to AVAST’s Facebook page and read all the visitor posts? What is going on over there?

One of my personal dictums in regard to computing is if a program is installed which is detrimental to the health of the computer then simply remove it.

The problem is the sheer impossibility of testing on every pc config there is and unfortunately it seems you are one of the unlucky ones who,s config was not thoroughly tested.

Thanks for the input. However, the issue seems to be more wide spread than a few unlucky ones. If you google issues like this there are hundreds, dare I say thousands. Something must have went terribly wrong in DEVland when the new update was made or they bumped it through Beta too quick to get it on the market. I have seen that happen too many times with a growing company.

You have to bear in mind when using google search is the actual date it occurred as unless it is recent then they will refer to earlier versions of avast. Whilst you could delimit the search by date to get a better idea of those reporting the problem.

Not to mention what OS and system resources, plus what applications are actually installed as the permutations must be huge also.

So it isn’t quite so clear cut as to how many google hits you get.

Your right… Its not.

But something that is worrisome is that a large portion of your Facebook customer posts are very disturbing. They
range from being auto-charged long after uninstall to complete loss of data resulting from following steps given by
your tech support to fix issues related to Avast installs or uninstalls. Some cannot even get a hold of tech support
at all and are told to submit another ticket.

What do you say about those?

Well shall we stay on-topic rather than take off in another direction.

I’m an avast user like yourself and have been for almost twelve years, yes people experience problems; those that don’t rarely take to the forums to say that they haven’t experienced any problems.

Simply discussing that there is some problem here…

We have to twiddle our thumbs while we wait for some kind of reply…

Nothing to stop you creating a new topic on other issues, but adding it to unrelated topics, just makes them more confused.

So back to the point of the OP…

roger-s, how is that ticket coming along?

:frowning:
No luck yet, now “being processed” since more than 16 days…

Reported to Avast.

Got a reply asking if this issue was still current. I answered: Yes!

Did you update to the latest version (2016.11.1.2253): https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=182468.0

Got reply a few days ago. They asked me to run “avastclear” then re-install (again). I did so and at first it seemed okay, but after I started a couple of programs and closed them again it’s back at 25% minimum CPU load. Updated my ticket accordingly, will see what happens.

I have on request submitted a system report to Avast support. My case has now been referred to another “level”.
They have asked me to:

You have installed Malwarebytes.
We do not recommend you to use more than one security application on one computer. This may cause a lot of conflict.
Can you try uninstall Malwarebytes and then restart your PC, please.

Also I would recommend you run the Boot-time scan in Avast, by following these steps:
a) Open Avast by double clicking on the orange “a” ball in the task bar.
b) Update virus definitions in the ‘SETTINGS – Update’ section
c) Click SCAN and then Scan for viruses.
d) From the drop down menu choose ‘Boot-time scan’ and click ‘Start’.

I personally have often complained that since the release of version 2, Malwarebytes uses a lot of resources.
On my system, it isn’t Avast but MB that’s hungry:

When I first start the system, It’s Malwarebytes that’s hogging my HD activity
and for a pretty long period of time. Hopefully there’ll be an answer every one can live with.
I’m currently toying with the idea of turning off the resident part of Malwarebytes and going back to doing my scan’s manually.

Absolute nonsense.Upon fresh reading of this very forum it would appear that many of the issues with avast which should of been addressed months ago have still not been fixed and no clear indication by avast staff that they will be fixed.Incidentally how on earth can malwarebytes be compared to avast when they are clearly 2 different products with differing security offered.
Question for you though…?
Why are you using 2 resident programs together and why use them indiscriminately.
