I have newly upgraded version 5.0.418 and I also run kerio personal firewall with a wireless network. I just purchased a program ~20 MB and it only downloaded at about 12kB. I looked at the connections with kerio and saw that avastsvc.exe was receiving something at about 125 KB/sec from a connection that included apphosting.com in the address. The connection to the apphosting.com location disappeared when my download completed but when I last looked at it, it had received over 100MB.
Does anyone know what is going on here, whether this it normal and whether or not I can avoid the avastsvc.exe connection in the future?
avast webshield just scans, do not “use” the bandwidth. So, some program is making the connection to apphosting.com.
Are you using avast firewall and Kerio?
Well first avastsvc.exe acts as a localhost proxy (for the web shield and Mail shields) intercepting http port 80 connections from your browser (in this case), it doesn’t autonomously make connections.
So something on your system is connecting to apphosting.com, which is a bit strange since it is an Australian web hosting service and you are in Canada.
This is not normal as avast would have no requirement to connect to there. However avastsvc.exe requires outbound connection or the web shield and Mail shield wouldn’t work.
