AvastSvc.exe using 13% CPU permanently

Hello,

Since yesterday the process AvastSvc.exe using 13% of my CPU permanently.

This leads to a lot higher than usual CPU temperatures, so I really want to fix this issue as soon as possible.

Can anyone please help me out with this? I’ve been quite happy with this AV, so would hate to have to change it…

I’m using Avast Free 18.7.2354 (build 18.7.40.41.389) - Virus definitions 181101-0 on Windows 7 ultimate 64bit.

Many thanks!

Repair Avast:

  1. Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → Avast
  2. Click on ‘Repair’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

Hi and thanks for your advice.

Tbh I was hoping for something a bit less “nuclear”, the good old reinstall did do the trick.

Many thanks

You’re welcome.

Hi daniel.loves.freitag,
to find out which component is responsible for CPU usage we would need to capture xperf logs and upload it to analysis.

Here are step by step instructions :

  1. Download xperf or wpa package it is win dependent so if you have win 7 download xperf for win 7 !

  2. Start cmd as admin and type to start profiling:
    xperf.exe -on DiagEasy+DISPATCHER+Profile -stackwalk profile+CSwitch+ReadyThread -start user -on 72AA3505-D4D6-4527-A088-92534DA1082C

  3. Stop profiling
    xperf.exe -stop user -stop -d daniel_loves_freitag_merged.etl

  4. Zip daniel_loves_freitag_merged.etl to daniel_loves_freitag_merged.zip and upload it to ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming

Thank you for report.
