I have an ASUS K53E laptop with Win7 64-bit. I recently installed an Intel SSD to speed it up.
When I goto Control Panel → Remove a program (under Programs) the system searches for all installed programs, but it takes a long time, and when I look at the Task list I can see that almost all CPU time is used by Avastsvc.exe.
Is it supposed to do that?
That seems to be normal, mine is going up to 60% when i open the program list.

On my machine it’s more like 95% of the CPU time.
Can you give some information about your comp?
Processor, RAM, etc.?

Intel B940 2GHz. 4GB RAM. Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Windows Experience Index: Graphics 4.5 but the rest about 5.9.
An Intel B940 is not an really strong processor as you can see on these German site(Scroll down to the Diagram), maybe this is due to your processor:

I am running an Intel i7 3610QM with 2.3 Ghz, 6 GB DDR3 RAM, Windows 8 64-Bit and an NVIDIA GeForce GT 635M 2 GB

Well… the problem as I see it is that the CPU seems to be doing almost nothing except running Avastsvc.exe.
Is THAT how it’s supposed to be?
When i open up only the Avast service is spiking up, and the System service every thing else is about zero.
So this is normal i think.
Avast is scanning everything when Windows collects the information.

Now I have tested it further:
I open the list of installed programs. If Avast is deactivated it takes 1-2 seconds, but if Avast is running it takes about 1 minute. THAT seems extreme to me.
