AvastSvc has been stopped

Any time I want to do a scan (quick, full or others) in Avast Free Antivirus 6.0.1000, I got a message from my OS (Vista Home Basic SP2 32-bit) that AvastSvc has been stopped. When I try to redo the scan it runs and finishes successfully. Could anybody say why it stops and what should I do with my Avast?

Update:
The problem has been resolved by complete Avast re-installation.

Everything was in vain! :frowning:

After the re-installation all kinds of scanning worked fine but when I planned quick and full scans, every of them were interrupted by the same message: “avast! Service was stopped and turned off.”

I still can’t run quick, full and screensaver scans. Scans start but some time later they are interrupted and the message again says that avast! Service was stopped and turned off. Other scans work fine. What should I do?

An installation from scratch of the version 6 suggestion mine is

It was done twice with no effect.

Did you use the uninstall tool to remove old version 5 and even version 6 leftovers?

Yes.

Strange…
Any other security program that could be interfering?

I have SpywareTerminator 2.8.2 and Windows Defender. But I think the problem is somewhere in OS, not in another security programs - I use them for years and there were no interference between them and Avast 4 and 5.

SpywareTerminator… Hmmm… Did you try uninstalling it?
Are you really sure that you’re improving detection having avast and ST running at the same time?
For me, it’s overkilling or lose of resources…

There are several users with Vista Home Basic SP2 32-bit and they have no problem.

It’s a strange question. Why should I uninstall SpywareTerminator? And what about other anti-spyware, like Superantispyware or MBAM? I didn’t see any posts saying that they should be uninstalled.

ST has a resident module.
Super and MBAM (free versions) have only on demand scannings.
That’s the point of my question.

ST has and had a resident module like paid versions of SAS and MBAM. When Avast was in versions 4 and 5, everything worked excellent. What has been changed in Avast 6 that ST should be removed?

And I am not sure in Avast’s anti-spyware capabilities. I believe that a separate anti-spyware program with the resident module is necessary if you run Avast Free.

Complete rubbish. ST has no antivirus: it can be integrated with ClamWin Antivirus but only if users want to integrate them. And Crawler toolbar is optional like WOT or WebRep.

To tell the truth I think that Avast developers did some changes in Avast 6 that now interfere with ST and it’s not ST’s fault. Something should be fixed in the next version of Avast to restore full compatibility with ST.

George, I’m asking you to do a test, not to definitively get rid of ST.

Well, the user explained it a little bad… But ClamWin could have its impact with avast…

Nobody is saying that.
But when we have a conflict… Both need to help and both need to be tested.
Does ST have a forum or support?

I turned off real-time protection of Windows Defender and ST but the results were not good for me. Quick scans began to work but sometimes they still fails but Full scans continue to fail. Should I try ST’s complete uninstallation?

I think yes.

I uninstalled every program that downloads on Windows start-up, including Avast, and turned Windows Defender off. After that I installed Avast and tried to run quick and full scans. The quick one works if following links and searching for potentially unwanted programs are off. The full scan is stopping at 5% progress with any variants of its options. Now you can see that something is wrong in Avast itself.

Hope some of the programmers take a look…
Maybe there is dump files into avast log folder.
Maybe you need to manual crash the computer and generate a dump.

Now I have there two MDMP files (600 kb each). What should I do with them?
