AvastSvc uses CPU load up to 100%

Hello,

My Avast is using all my CPU load on my Win 10 Laptop, so I can’t work anymore. I neither can repair nor can uninstall Avast. I also cannot edit avast5.ini and I cannot stop the process via task manager. It starts from the very beginning of the startup process. In services I can see the the status ‘wird angehalten’. When I try to change the services startup in msconfig the check boxes are being checked again after I unchecked them, even if I start msconfig in administrator mode. I also can not use the power shell as administrator because I can not type any characters into the prompt.
How can I stop Avast on my PC?

Best regards and thank you in advance
Alex B

Please provide more information.

  • Which Avast are you running? (Free/Pro/IS/Premier)
  • Which version…?
  • What OS and build? (32/64 Bit)
  • Any other security-related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

Thanks for your answer,

Since my last answer was swallod by the forums software, here my short answer:
Avast free 18.6.2349 and I can’t start the gui to change the settings
Win 10 Home 64 bit 1803 17134.285
Windows Defender is running but no other dedicated AV-Software previously

best regards
Alex

You don’t say whether you have used the Uninstall tool

Avast uninstall tool is here: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility

Answer ‘Yes’ to run in Safe Mode

Never heard of avast uninstall tool. Do Inhave to run as admin?

You can.
As per Link, download Avastclear.exe to your desktop
Double click. Run the program and select ‘Yes’ to run it in Safe Mode.
When finished Reboot.

I’m a little confused, because windows asked me for a password for safe mode. But I only have my pin that doesn’t work.
[edit] OK i remembered the password. But since the last restart everything is working fine again. So thank you for your answars. I will watch if this happens again and then I already know the solution.
