AvastUI crashes

AvastUI.exe crashes (sometimes) when I try to bring it up. Not Avast, just the User Interface. From all I can see Avast is still working (avastsvc.exe).

Running:
Avast 5.0
Win XP SP2

Update your avast! to version 6.0.1289 and your XP to SP3 (on 32Bit)…!!!

Same issue on updated version with win XP SP3. Both with Pro and Free programs. Also freezes or crashes when opening UI in Safe Mode. Tried multiple reinstalls and happens without fail. Happens whether trying to open from file or desktop icons.

Which avast…??
Which version…??
Other security related software installed…??

Hi AMS63.

Can you update us with your avast! version. And please make sure that, there is no other security softwares in the computer.

Have a wonderful day… Good Karma!

Any need to repeat that…???

Greetings sunsetlover,

cheers…

i’m no expert, but i dont think hijackthis can tell us anything about this issue.

alpha1…

the log would reveal the running serivices and process. we can get more clear picture of whats happening in the system.

cheers…

Happened on both Avast Free and Pro 6.0.1289.0
There is no other security software. Uninstalled Maleware Bytes and few uninstalls ago, although there is still a file for that in the registry.
Thanks for being some prompt with your replies, wasn’t expecting that!

Download Avast latest stable version ANEW. Then download the removal utilities of ALL security tools you ever HAD. You can find a partial list at http://thewebatom.net/uninstallers/security-software/.

For Avast, the removal utility is located at http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility.

Reboot into Windows Safe Mode, run the appropriate removal tool, indicating the correct version and folder.

Then REBOOT AGAIN into Safe Mode and run the removal utility AGAIN, selecting other versions you even had.

Repeat the removal, rebooting in between each time, and selecting a different version you ever had each time.

Once all versions of all security tools are really removed, reboot into Normal Mode and reinstall Avast with the just downloaded setup.exe. Reboot once more immediately after installing Avast (even before configuring it or updating it).

Please test and report back.
