AvastUI.exe Application Error: 0xc0000096

Hi,

I have Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and just this morning ran a full Windows Defender scan. Later the computer was hibernated. When it started up again, I got this error:

AvastUI.exe Application Error: The exception Privileged instruction (0xc0000096) occurred in the application at location 0x74bf8665. Click OK to terminate the program.

I clicked OK, and checked the Avast icon in the toolbar and it said: Everything is good. 2014.9.0.2008 131210.0

I searched here and did not find a thread on this error number (unless I missed it).

Can anyone explain this and what I should do about it? Thanks! :slight_smile:

You don’t want both Avast and Windows Defender running together. Disable Windows Defender and use Malwarebytes as your on demand scanner. Windows defender has low level drivers which (could) conflict with Avast.

Thanks! I disabled WD and have had no issues with Avast since then. :slight_smile:
