AvastUi.exe - Application Error Memory could not be written

Hi,

out of nowhere I got a popup saying that there is an application error concerning AvastUi.exe. See screenshot (it’s in German). It says:

AvastUI.exe Error - The Instruction at 0x00000000 referenced memory at 0x00000000 The memory could not be written.

Click ok to terminate the program.

I did not click ok, but cancelled the popup. I then saw that the little icon in the taskbar of Windows would suddenly show to Avast icons, then it was reduced again to one icon.

I had a number of applications running at the time of the popup (Firefox with multiple tabs, Office, etc.). I closed everything and did a reboot. Nothing. I can open the UI of Avast by double clicking the icon in the taskbar.

What should I do now? Is there something I should do? Am I properly protected? I found multiple threads here in the forum, but no one ever answered what this actually means.

I appreciate any suggestions.

Thank you!

Here are the details for my machine: Windows 7 32bit (SP 1), Avast Free newest program version and newest definitions.

Hi, I am not aware of the ‘technical explanation’ of what exactly happened, but sometimes a system can burp ::slight_smile:
If Avast is acting as expected (no errors showing) and all Avast shields are functioning and you are running the latest virus/program as I think you mentioned, then I wouldn’t sweat the small stuff…as long as it does not consistently repeat.
Just saying from personal experience.

Someone else may explain in technical terms

I am having the same problem. Someone please chime in with something that makes sense and a fix. Thanks so much.
