Avastui.exe how many?

I am using avast free and see that I have avastui.exe 3 times in task manager is this normal? Thks

Yup I have 3. Unless someone corrects me, I think that is normal.

Ok thks do you know why ,no big deal but I am new to avast and like it just wanted to make sure .

A very long time ago it would have been only one instance. Things have been changed in that the avastUI.exe does more than just manage the User Interface, so it can have multiple instances when required. This would be faster than say only one instance of the avastUI.exe working in only the one running process of avastUI.exe.

Though in win10 I don’t see specifically avastUI.exe but Avast Antivirus, but even combined they are using very little processing CPU or RAM resources.

Great Thks for info. Would you know which module(s) provide to be very useful yet have litttle performance impact under free version?

I can’t say, just comments from previous topics indicating multiple occurrences in the task manager indicating it is doing more than one thing.

I suppose it is similar in other programs, and one example of this is your browser, that frequently has multiple task manager processes running. Currently my Firefox combines 13 processes into the one entry, expand that and you see the multiple occurrences.
This generally relates to the number of tabs you have running, this can speed things up.

Thks whichnother modules are useful when you install Avast free?

I’m not sure if this is still related to your original question.

If so:
It isn’t just modules/components that the user elects to install, which will be different depending on user choices.
The user interface will interact with installed components/functions, it will be communicating with the shields should there be an alert or notice, etc. that needs to be displayed to the user.

If not:
The components installed totally depends on the users needs/requirements and that will differ from user to user. I have a Minimal Install with only a couple of other components.

Ok Thks I have 1 module installed and looking for next best one ,slowly work one at a time.

It would be hard to just have one module/component installed, what is it ?
I would say that the Web Shield is perhaps the most important shield, given that the internet is the most likely attack vector so needs protected and the File System Shield a close second. The Behaviour Shield provides another level of protection as it is monitoring behaviour, something may not necessarily be detected by other shields but exhibits suspicious behaviour.

The minimal default is the File System Shield and the Web Shield, see attached what I have for my Avast minimal-installation-plus Avast Free installation.

I have file shield ,still great protection next one would be web shield.Does the BB shield slow down the computer at all? Thks

Read the specs of my system under my posts, it doesn’t slow my system at all.

What could slow your system greatly would be to get an infected system.

Ok Thks I have a i3-8100 with 8gigs ram 500gig ssd win10

You’re welcome.

You should probably be fine with that my CPU whilst a core i5 is an earlier Intel 7200U version.
