Hello.
Clean install of windows 7.
Installed avast, AvastUI.exe ran at startup.
Installed windows updates, updated avast.
Now, no GUI on boot.
No stupid mistakes by me (like unchecking show tray icon etc.)
Question 1: How to get the tray icon back.
Question 2: Is the antivirus still active without GUI?
By the way, adding avastui.exe to startup loads the GUI correctly, annoyingly however, the whole user interface loads. Which means my dad has to close it every time the computer starts. And, “effin b-locks” to that, as my dad would say…

Try this.
1: Open Control Panel .
2: Open Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features .
3: Find avast!.
4: Click it, then click Uninstall/Change .
5: Scroll down and click Repair .
6: Click Next > .
7: After the repair has completed, restart the computer.
1: Open Windows Task Manager .
2: Click the Processes tab.
3: Click the Show processes from all users button or tick box.
4: Look for AvastSvc.exe under the Image Name column.
If it is listed there, you are still protected by avast!, despite no visible user interface or Notification Area icon.
If it is not listed there, you are probably not protected by avast!.
