avastui.exe - System Error

Query relates to a Toshiba laptop running Win 8 and Avast Internet Security.

When opening Firefox or clicking on the Avast toolbar icon, I’m getting a warning headed “avastui.exe - System Error”, the text of which is “The program can’t start because mfc110u.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.”

  1. Is the fix actually just a simple case of uninstalling Avast using the control panel, downloading the current version again then re-installing the license file?

  2. If this is a registry problem, what’s best to use for registry cleaning and maintenance and generally keeping the thing running sweetly when used by a non-tech person?

Thanks

See if that helps…

Repair avast!:

  1. Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → avast!
  2. Click on ‘Repair’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

Thanks, but no luck. Clicking on Avast in “programs” in CP only gives me the options to uninstall or change - not repair. Also, there’s an empty box where the Avast logo should be at the start of that line.

  1. Download avast! Internet Security: http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe
  2. Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed avast! versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall avast! with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

That worked

Thank you for your help. Have a great day!
