avastui.exe -- to many cycles

Hello – I been running avast on some of my older xp system – but avastui.exe is consuming at times 90% of the cpu – what is it
doing – how can I reduce this?

Hello fpefpe, welcome to the forums.

It seems you have the same issue reported in the topic below.
If that is the case, unfortunately there is no solution provided for now.

AvastUI.exe * 32 always uses 25% of cpu’s resources.

You don’t say what avast version you are using, the latest being 18.5.2342 ?

As you can see from my signature one of my systems is XP Pro SP3, I haven’t updated this yet ans have 18.4.2338 and I’m not experiencing this issue.

yes – I am running with 18.5.2342 also

Hello,
I am also running 18.4.2338, except I’m on Win7, and Avast is using between 25-30% of my CPU.

I’d like to know what it’s doing. I have closed my browser, am not running anything, and still it’s using so much cpu.

Is there any fix in the works?
Thanks.

My question was directed to ‘fpefpe’ the creator of this topic.

Unfortunately as an Avast user like yourself, I don’t know if there is a fix in the pipeline or when it is likely to be delivered.

What I can’t understand is how this is only happening ‘now’ with 18.4.2338 when this was released on or about the 10 May 2018 as I don’t see any other posts for you for some considerable time.

Easy to answer - when I first noticed the behavior, I didn’t know what was causing it, thought maybe it was the browser. Only recently figured out it was Avast and came here to check it out.

I was replying to you just to add a voice to say that 18.4.2338 has the problem with Win7.

Thanks.

There is some indication that this might be related to the Data Protection Scan function.

AvastUI.exe using high CPU % -

Thanks, I’ll check it out.

You’re welcome.

If you are going to try the avast5.ini edit option, not only would you need to disable the self-defence module (as mentioned in the quote) you can only use Notepad.
