Hi !
First of all, I want to say that I’m French, so there might be some errors in my post
I’m not really used to posting on forums as the solution is often easy to find when we search thoroughly. Yet, I can’t find the answer anywhere. It drives me crazy… I need some help if possible !
As the title of the topic says, AvastUI.exe (aka Avast) won’t start at startup even though msconfig or Ccleaner say it will. But first things first. I have Windows 8.1, 64bit, Avast 2015 Free (version 10), no other anti-spyware or firewall added (I just have the default ones from Windows) and full access to the computer (I’m the administrator).
What is strange is that AvastSvc.exe is automatically launched at startup (it is a Services of Avast) but AvastUI.exe isn’t… Well, when I said it doesn’t start, I mean that I went in the task manager in order to know if it was activating (it never did, in the background or not). In addition to this, when I manually load the app, it works and the icon stays in the taskbar (the problem doesn’t seem to come from the app).
This issue wasn’t always there… I think it started when I restored the system few days ago. Back then, when I booted my computer, Avast launched by itself and was doing his ordinary database update. Now I fear that I am not protected at all unless I open manually the app everytime I boot the computer…
What I tried was:
- Uninstalling the program with Windows then reinstall it.
- Uninstalling with Avast Uninstall Utility (avastclear.exe) then reinstall it.
- Uninstalling in clean boot, reinstall in clean boot…
- Using the Repair function of Avast.
- Adding a key in the registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run)
- Using the version 9 (Avast 2014)
- Restoring the registry from a backup.
Of course nothing works.
Then I started to search in other posts :
- Put a shortcut to Startup folder (not working)
- Go to Task Manager > Startup (It is in msconfig in windows 7), make sure it listed (check) and activate it (it never was deactivated: it says Activated)
- Go to Avast settings and check “Shows in taskbar” in Appearance (it is always checked)
- Go to the taskbar menu to make sure if it was hidden or not (Nope, not hidden at all)
I don’t know if it is precise enough… But, I’m here if you need more information.
Hopefully, someone will have the solution, because I like Avast, and I really don’t want to uninstall it to put smthg else instead…
Many thanks in advance !!
