avEngine.exe - Application Error

We just sold a client a bundle of Avast! software to replace Symantec Enterprise 9.x. I am trying to install the Avast! Distributed Network Manager in my lab before installing for the client, just to get fully comfortable with the program. I am running in to a show stopping
problem, that I need an answer to as quickly as possible. I am scheduled to begin installation for the client this evening and I’m not going to proceed until we get this resolved.

I have tried installing twice, once on Windows 2000 Professional SP4, with MSDE and once on Windows 2000 Server SP4 with SQL Server 2000 SP4.

I am receiving the same error message from AvEngine.exe, with slightly different memory addresses. Please read my notes below on steps taken during troubleshooting and let me know how to resolve this. I am open to trying the last version of admn if you can point me to a download location.

Follow-up…

I just installed on a machine with Windows XP SP2, with the exact same results.

I’m installing on a Compaq Evo N1000c laptop. This time it was on a completelly different box.

What’s going on?!? I can’t attempt this install for a client with results like this in the lab.

Please help.

Thank you,

Doug

Solved by email.
The solution was to install this patch: http://cat.asw.cz/misc/AvClient.dll (just place it to the avast Management Tools folder).
Technically, the problem was caused by too long CPU label on the machine.

The patch will be included in the upcoming ADNM update.

Thanks.

I get the same types of errors as this on two different servers. Both previously had symantec. On the ADNM server when I close the ADNM Console I get a popup box with title “asaAdmin.exe - Application Error”
then the message says:
The instruction at “0x77f8f107” referenced memory at “0x317e2034”. The memory could not be “read”.
Click on OK to terminate the program.

Then the other server is the MS SMTP server I get it when I stop the Avast! NetAgent service.
AvAgent.exe - Application Error with the same exact message as the other server.

Please update to the latest version (released yesterday).

Thanks. That fixed the server with the ADNM from getting the error but still get it when I stop netagent on the server with the avast managed server install. Now that server still has 4.6.365.
What is the best way to update servers and clients with a new program. I had used an .msi and group policy to do the initial install on everything. Do I have to redo an .msi with the new program or can it be done easier within ADNM?

Easier.
Create an “Updating task” (see that folder in the Client-side tasks folder) and run it on the machine(s) you want…

Edit: sorry, didn’t see your other thread. Let’s discuss there.

Thanks
