AVG 7.5 freezes computer when I try to scan system

I know this was addressed someplace. It comes to a VM file and then freezes right at the beginning of the scan. I just got back from 6 months away and can’t remember what the problem is. Should I just unistall the program?
I am sure plenty of my other programs need updating too but I just got broadband yesterday and haven’t gotten around to it yet.
Any help would be appreciated.

Are you talking about AVG antivirus or antispyware (avgas)?
Is avast still installed?

avg antispyware.
Yes Avast is still installed. I don’t have the spyware running all the time. I just wanted to scan my computer.

When running another security scanner AVGas, or any other I would suggest you pause the Standard Shield. This avoids the possibility of any conflict/clash if an infected file is found that both recognise. This not only avoids the possible conflict it also stops duplication of scanning as any file that avgas wants to open to scan standard shield will stick its nose into it also, it should also speed up the overall scan duration.

Although this advice works and it’s good, I myself do not do it… the antivirus is always on regardless of anything running concurrent. I never have a conflict with other program detects on demand an infection (or a false positive).
Of course, it demands more resources and it’s slower.

You need to edit your quote, the closing tag is missing an ‘e’ /quot, so you are putting words in my mouth ;D

Very funny… ;D ;D

I'll second Tech's method. This gives me a chance to do 2 scans at the same time. Usually while I'm doing non computer activities. (If there is such a thing. ;D)

Best moments for on-demand scannings.
