AVG Anti-spyware is giving me a headage

As all may have heard that ewido anti-spyware their website www.ewido.net/ is now gone is all set to AVG site, and I am unable to manually download the full signatures update any more .

A message from the ewido.net website.
Ewido is now part of the AVG Technologies family of world-class Anti-Virus and Internet Security products. ewido users will benefit from AVG’s comprehensive threat research and support resources.

Now please be honest with me I’m not touching Spyware Terminator it been giving me a lot problem with my PC, and please don’t ask me why it a very long story.

Could you please be honest with me and recommend me a free anti-spyware with full shields and full update signatures to give my PC a peace of mind that keep me safe.

AVG and Ewido I F%@KEN HATE YOU …sorry for my language

This isn’t the fault of Ewido, when they owned it the application was state of the art, now in Grisoft’s hands it turned to state of the arc.

If you are looking for an on-access resident free option I think your options are very limited. ST was one of the few offering resident protection, the other is I believe a-squared and many don’t rate that very highly, some say they got more false positive detections than good ones.

SUPERantispyware On-Demand only in free version. Pay the piper and you can get the resident version with auto updates, etc.

Thank DvaidR I had a bad feeling you would say that SUPERantispyware and it a very good software, I’ll have to find the shop retailer that sell it in OZ.

You could also try somewhere like download.com and see what they have in the way of anti-spyware and check out the popularity ratings and reviews, etc. then do some google searching.

You can buy it in line if you must have the paid for option with resident protection.

Speedy… SuperAntispyware could be used on-demand.
You can use the SpywareDoctor from GooglePack for free also.

Anyway, avast will protect you on-access (resident) for both virus and spywares.

Why did you have a bad feeling about SAS ?. If you visit their forum, they seem to bend over backwards to help people, they are very eager to deal with any bugs in the program,or anyone who is having problems getting rid of malware .I take my hat off to them. They are also very keen for users to submit new malware,in order to update their definitions quickly.I guess this is because they are a small company, eager to impress, unlike AVG.

Hi Speedy,

For what you are asking, I would suggest Spybot - Search & Destroy which has recently been updated to a new version. It is still free and gives realtime protection.

Thanks for all reply does anybody have a rough idea what is the total anti-spyware signatures for the latest Avast 4.8 to detect the anti-spyware very much like AVG and SuperAntispyware while the shields is on-access resident.

CharleyO - I’ve already been using Spybot - Search & Destroy for 3yrs and still using it.

Micky77 - About 2yrs ago SuperAntispyware wasn’t preforming well in spyware security protection, and 2yrs later SuperAntispyware is get heap better than Spyware Terminator way above the mark. I was just a bit worried about what happen 2yrs to my PC but that in pass now

If the latest Avast v4.8 detected anti-spyware and keep their security performance strong than I just used the free version of SuperAntispyware as on-demand, while I have the full sheilds turn on in the latest Avast it very important we all wanted to know what is the total anit-spyware signatures in the latest Avast software.

A rough idea? Yes. The enough signatures to be considered as an antispyware program.
Number of viruses detected varies from manufacturer to manufacturer… sometimes, just a marketing number…

Wise decision
