I thought this will happen sooner or later.
The poor (very poor) update servers of Grisoft are just messing the old (good) update methods of Ewido.
This is now happening, from time to time… sometimes is the server, sometimes the net, most of them the timout because of other Internet applications running. Sad
I did an update on Saturday (weekly update) as part of my system maintenance and no problems.
So I have just initiated another one now and no delay and or errors completed quickly even on dial-up. However, you will notice I’m still using Ewido, so I don’t know if this uses different servers for the update.
Checking my firewall log it connected to update.ewido.net and strangely i.i.com.com, which I associate with stats/tracking.
Hi David! 8)
Is it still possible to get the originall ewido ( not AVG antispyware) for download, if You know the link, P-l-e-a-s-e provide me with it
Thankyou.
Take care.
I can’t recall but I think I just reinstalled the copy I had on my HDD after getting rid of the AVG-AS version. I would suggest you try filehippo.com, as they also retain old versions of popular software.
See this link http://filehippo.com/download_ewido/ and check the Old Versions and you will see Ewido 4.0.
I’ve been getting the error Tech posted regularly for the past week with Ewido too, and last night I got one that said Error: Incorrect Answer (whatever that means). Being able to update Ewido is now the exception for me.
EDIT:
Filehippo has some of the older versions
They’ve messed the update process… that is what I’m trying to blame to
I’ve been relying more on ASquared lately. I think Ewido was a better program but ASquared has come a long way and the updates are problem free.
Well just tried to update my copy of AVG Anti-Spyware and am getting the same error, well time to uninstall…
Thanks guys for the links 8)
Hi
I had those errors too while trying to update AVG Antispyware, and after trying for few times, i just succeed to update it
I am currently playing with Superantispyware, it is slow but appears to go deeper, however I am just trialing it at the moment and if any one has malware problems I would love to see a side by side comparison log of both. I can help with setup if required. I too have found that the updates have gone the same way as their antivirus
AVG antispyware updates are as always… awful. “server is not ready to serve” >:(
I’ve never had any problems with AVG Anti-Spyware updating… :o
Hi New_Age,
I've never had any problems with AVG Anti-Spyware updating... :o
Then you were lucky! ;D
...I too have found that the updates have gone the same way as their antivirus
Essexboy, i was just looking at the firewall test results http://www.matousec.com/projects/windows-personal-firewall-analysis/leak-tests-results.php
and it appears like their firewall has gone with the wind too ! ;D
Grisoft - the vendor of AVG Anti-Virus plus Firewall
The firewall in AVG was not implemented to fight leak-testing techniques, its main purpose is to protect users from inbound attacks. This is the response we have received from Grisoft: As a part of the integrated solution, AVG firewall focuses mainly on the protection from the outbound attacks.....
And this is what is told on their website
Control over all network access — The AVG Firewall monitors all communication to and from the computer, blocking external attacks and preventing trojans from exporting confidential data. The AVG Firewall configuration wizard automatically creates access rules for all popular software. In addition the firewall can switch profiles automatically, based upon the current conection type, ensuring seamless changeover for notebooks.
I never changed from the old Ewido and so far, no problems with updates.
I guess that could change at anytime, though.
I’ve read (can’t find where…) that ewido support will end at the beginning of the next year, forcing all to move to AVGas.
Is this true? :
I’ve read it somewhere too… maybe in forums, hell knows ;D
I haven’t read anything directly about ewido support ending, but it something to be expected, then who knows, move to avg-as or another anti-spyware. I know I won’t put up with poor update servers, that was a major reason for dumping AVG AV for avast over two and a half years ago.
I have been looking at other anti-spyware programs, Superantispyware and spyware terminator, they lasted about two weeks each, neither of which are still on my system. I much preferred the Ewido interface, speed and stability. I may even be forced to look at paid for options
I almost gave up on SpyBot for this reason… Yeah, I’ve left AVG years ago because of this and the poor configurability of its antivirus
