AVG to Avast?

Hi folks
new to the forum
Just heard about Avast on a tv program and would like to give it a try.
I use AVG free edition at the moment and wondered if I need to uninstall this first or if they can happily(?) run together!
Thanks
Steve

Welcome!

You’ll need to uninstall AVG because two anti-virus programs both with on-access scanning will conflict. (I.e., when you open the file, both programs will fight over which one is going to check it.)

Cheers for that. I`ll give it a try.

I have jsut moved from AVG to Avast (after readingmany reviews and comparisons). I simply unistalled AVG (then ran a reg cleaner); and installed Avast. All seems to be working fine.

Yes, a simple uninstall is enough with AVG. Other AV’s may leave stuff behind which prevents avast! from functioning correctly. Usually NAV.

Welcome to the forums.

A registry cleaner is very helpful for the remnants of an uninstall.

Yep!! I went from AVG (had it for a few years) to Avast 4 Home, and IMHO it is a vastly superior Ant-Virus program.

I just uninstalled AVG normally and installed Avast, the only problem i had was the -email scanner, but that was my own stupidity with tinkering around with the ports.

soon as i set them back to default, everything was O.K.

Gasman, you can use AVG as a non-resident, second scanner, without ANY of the residents. No conflicts with avast this way.

FreewheelinFrank, AVG lefts tons of Registry keys behind, lots of Legacy keys :stuck_out_tongue:
Fortunatelly, no one blocks avast! installation.

Linuts, no doubt about avast! superiority… I’ve used AVG in the past…
