AVG

Do I have to remove my AVG so as not to conflict with Avast

Having two resident scanners installed is not recommended as rather than provide twice the protection it can cause conflicts that could leave you more vulnerable.

So it would be best to uninstall AVG and reboot before installing avast, download and save avast on your HDD before uninstalling though.

You can (dangerously) use AVG if you do NOT install the email plugin and the guard (resident) part.
Disable is not enough. You can’t install that two parts of AVG.

Oh, even though, you can have trouble with Windows Security Center antivirus detection.
So, David’s advices are safer… but if you want to live dangerously

I don’t know why ANYONE would use AVG, I don’t know about their product, but their forums have to be the most UN-friendly on the internet. Thank God the Avast forums are just the opposite.

The reason I know this is a friend of mine was having problems with AVG so I was reading through their forums for help and just gave up. Needless to say, that friend is now a very happy Avast user.

(Sorry about going off, but this REALLY ticked me off)

Here’s just a small sample:

Wow! That’s all I can say.

I take it your friends problems went away with avg?

btw on aumha forum, they no longer recommend avg av.

Hey oldman,

Yep , Avast found the virus and got rid of it and like I said he’s a happy Avast user now.

I’ve registered on AVG forum too… the lack of support in unbelievable  :stuck_out_tongue:

omg i thought i was the only one who has this opinion about the avg forum…i was an avg free user for 4months and i was registered in their forums and they suck…they can’t help u well and they insult u…avast forum is the most firendly and helpful forum i know…

I assume AVG in this thread refers specifically to their anti-virus - if so, never having used that, I can’t help.

But if you mean their Anti-Spy (formerly ewido), the support forums at Wilders Security are quite good and are still regularly visited and assisted by the ewido team. How long that will last, with things gradually changing over to the “AVG way”, is of course anyone’s guess.

Thanks Mike… this is a good ‘correction’. Not all AVG support is poor… Ewido was an exception.

I’ve used Avast Home and AVG Free (at home) and AVG Pro and CA EZAntivirus commercially.

My experience with AVG support…

AVG Pro - by email - excellent

AVG Free - by volunteer forum - helpful, but sometimes begrudgingly so (BUT - it’s still better than the appalling email or hidden on-line support for CA EZAntivirus- which is not a free program!)

Problems with AVG for some users seem to have increased since the introduction of version 7.5. This was also the case when 7.0 was first released. Hopefully there will not be similar issues for Avast in future.

Thanks for the correction Mike, Yes, I was talking about their AVG free Anti-virus support.

And thanks to all the good people who keep this forum so friendly and helpful.

WOW

With my lack of Knowledge (Brain Dead) if i asked for assistance there i would be told that i should not own a computer as i would be to stupid.

Cheers

lol propably yes…(joking) :stuck_out_tongue: no they just can’t help u very much…they always ask u a lot of info about ur pc and if they can’t solve the problem, they blame u…well i’m talking about the avg free forum…i haven’t tried the ewido support forum…
