I’ve tested it. I test a lot of different antivirus software products. It’s part of what I do. I’ve always had problems with testing avira. This new beta version is no different to me than the one they currently offer. It uses a lot of system resources, and for me that’s a no-no. It also seems to give more false positives than I would like to see. Also a problem where I’m concerned. JMHO. 
Just as I expected. ;D
They need to do something extra to be more competitive…
They just changed the UI color from red to black…and calls it version 10

It’s a no-no for me as well but I never thought of Avira as being a high resource (usage) application, at least in comparison to Norton or AVG. It was even was lighter than MSE on my laptop, (Intel Dual Core and 4 GB’s of memory.) ???

I’m a programmer/technician. I’m also an analysis person. It’s great that you’ve used this software and have found light resources with it. I base my comparisons on many different things. My testing systems are made of many variables, and with this comes resource analysis.
Avira has always for me used more resources than I or others that I work with personally would like to see. The test systems I use are comprised and have a lot of different obstacles that I personally run the software up against. What works well on one persons system, won’t on another. We like to see the software compatable with many systems. I also remove those obstacles as I see fit and then re-run the software. I and others find this software to be problematic in that area is all. I’m very happy it worked well for you. I won’t dare go into our findings on Norton or AVG.

IMO, avira 10 doesn’t seem to have that much improvement but interface change when compared to v9. Pretty much like that of AVG 8 and AVG 9.

Avira has an appetite for memory, a no go for me.
The amount of misinformation on these forums regarding other security soft is mind boggling.
I used to be a Avast user but stopped using it because it was quite system intensive if U customised the settings for better detection, also a Avast deep scan took ages to finish, also the silly media player interface at the time was very cheap looking.
I then moved to NOD but after a few missed detections that screwed my PC & the fact that ESET always stacked the database with outdated sigs just before AV tests (AV-Comparatives etc) that were then removed after the testing left a bad taste in my mouth. U would be amazed how many AV companies do that.
I have been using Avira for over 3 years now & it is the lightest AV i have ever used & that is with settings maxed out, a maxed out system scan checks everythin that Avast did but does it a lot quicker.
I have never had any probs with FP’s other than nocd exe’s for games to save havin the disc in all the time & the fact it labels anythin called keygen as a virus (the only bad point i can find)
All AV’s have FP’s but whereas Avira mainly does it on setup & downloaded files, Avast & others can knock out a system (seem to recall a Avast FP recently that put system files in the virus chest)

I’ll still stick with Avast! but I would probably switch to Avira over AVG.
That’s nonsense… except for (stupid) exceptions, it’s not possible to break most password protected archives within a reasonable time.
