Avira keeps detecting viruses in my avast folder?

Whenever I visit specific sites, such as tf2wiki or photobucket, avira would pop up, saying that I have a virus, and says that it’s located in my avast folder, and I downloaded avast from the main site. I checked my events and the only three viruses that have show up are: WORM/Rbot.147456.1 [worm], HEUR/HTML.Malware [heuristic] and TR/Crypt.XPACK.Gen [trojan], and this was over a rather long period of time, nearly an entire month, though each has showed up many times. I didn’t alter the default location of the avast folder when I downloaded it, it is located in C:\WINDOWS\Temp_avast4_, there was a file named “unp4598633.tmp.”, though I deleted it, now the only file in the avast4 folder is “Webshlock”. I cannot delete it nor open it because it says that it’s in use. Is avira just conflicting with avast and giving me false positives, or are these actual viruses?

Do you have avast antivirus and avira antivirus together?
If yes not recommended to have two in a computer or both of them will conflict

Try Immunet

www.immunet.com

It is worth having.

It works with any other AV

You may use Avira with Avast if you disable its resident shields

I’ve tried to use Avg and avast! together once ;D
I made both custom installation and there was no conflict the problem is that my system was slowed down :frowning:

it is not so smart either, if you read the first link

If you need a second opinion there is plenty of online scanners http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Scanners.htm

@ Pondus

Impressive read!

Is these online scanners free ;D?

Some remove malware others do not. Here is a list of tools for you.Happy reading ;D

I have both avira and avast on my computer, as well as malwarebytes, AVG and spybot:search & destroy. I had all these anti viruses installed on my computer during these detections, so does that mean they are possibly fake, or are they real? And which anti viruses should I get rid of?

What you are seeing is classic conflict between two or more AVs, the avast4 folder is where avast unpacks files to be scanned in the form of files named unp*.tmp (* being a numeric value) and avirs is hooking those newly created files and scanning them.

They represent little or no risk in the avast4 folder as they aren’t:
a. in the original location so couldn’t be called.
b the file name has been changed so even if they new where it was the file name for any call was wrong.
c. until executed (and that isn’t going to happen) they are effectively inert.
d. after avast scans them (not possible whilst avira has them hooked) it clears that folder.

Since you are on the avast forums our suggestions on which to get rid of is going to be somewhat biased. So that decision is really up to you, once you have made your mind up remove Avira and AVG. You didn’t expect me to advise otherwise did you ;D

Seriously avast has a number of features not found in avira and AVG, so you have to decide what features you need and what AV provides that. One other thing to consider is support, something not often considered and you have seen the speed of response in the avast forums ;D
