Wow… thanks for posting this link! I’ve been fighting this very problem (random GUI freeze-up’s, requiring a forced reboot) for about a month, and had no clue as to what caused it or what could be done to work around it. Based on this link (to Jamf Nation) the problem was introduced when OS X Security Update 2016-003 was applied to El Capitan 10.11.6. The bad news is we’ll have to wait on Apple to acknowledge the problem and provide a fix.
Apples QA testing has went seriously downhill. There used to be two teams, one focused on iOS/TVOS/watchOS and one for MacOS. Now its one giant team and MacOS quality has suffered severely lately
I agree. As much as I love Apple and Apple products, I believe that quality control and innovation have definitely suffered in the post-Jobs era.
Apple has released into the wild Supplemental Security Update 2016-003, which allegedly fixes the problem introduced by Security Update 2016-003 (Random GUI freezes ultimately requiring a forced restart).
I’ve put it on, so let’s wait and pray that it solves the problem.
