I am using Avast4 which is not connected to Internet. I find it very difficult to update virus database using Incremental updates. If I miss a update, there is no way for me to know that I have missed it. Is there any facility so that I can download and install updates after a particular date till curent date ?
I’m not sure I fully understand what you’re asking so please forgive me if I’m explaining the “bleeding obvious”.
If the PC is never connected to the internet, you can download the full VPS package from http://www.avast.com/eng/update_avast_4_vps.html on another PC and copy it over.
If you can only connect the PC temporarily, the Avast auto-updater will automatically determine which incremental updates you need, even if you have missed one or more.
Incremental updates: iAVS is a fast, small, incremental and fully automated update via the Internet. Updates are released at least twice a week.
The latest iAVS update was published on: 25.11.2007, version: 071125-0
No reinstallation of the program is needed for virus database updates!
If you are connected to the Internet, updates are downloaded and installed automatically without any need for user action. The presence of a new version on our servers is checked when the Internet connection is established, and every four hours afterwards. Please download the following file only if you really need it (e.g. if your computer does not have any Internet connection).
This is what is given in above mentioned link. My question is does the update version 071125-0 contain all previous updates or only updates last published till published on 25.11.2007 ?
Each vpsupd.exe package released, currently 071125-0, contains “all previous updates”, in other words, all the definitions that would be there if you had just installed the current Avast 4.7 1074 and updated incrementally.
Unlike other vendors, there is no way you can ‘skip’ updates. If you have 7112500, you are up to date. If you got to this point by small incremental steps (preferred) or by large full download (deprecated) does not have anything to do with completness, VPS is always complete.
