avst - openVPN - Windows 7 32 bits

Thank you so much for your new version of Avast.

It destroys the openVPN connections. Whatever I do with avast (desinstall avast, upgrade, …) openVPN does not work anymore (TAP32 connecton destroyed) …

It is so good to be forced to do a system restore to be able to work …

No other solution than desinstalling avast & openVPN, install a new AV software and reinstall OpenVPN.

Thank you for spending my time on this.

Albert

Sorry to bump an old thread but I am running into this exact same issue on Windows 7 64-bit.

Everything starts well with OpenVPN but when it tries to update the routing table the following appears in the OpenVPN connection log:

"ERROR: Windows route add command failed [adaptive]: returned error code 1"

-and-

"ROUTE: route addition failed using CreateIpForwardEntry: Access is denied."

I can get OpenVPN connection to work on machines that have not had Avast installed before. As soon as Avast is installed OpenVPN can no longer update the routing table and it still doesn’t work after Avast has been uninstalled. I have tried putting exclusion in Avast’s firewall and running the application in sandbox mode. Disabling Avast temporarily doesn’t work either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT:
I am using the openvpn-install-2.3.4-I002-x86_64.exe client to connect to the IPFire firewall.

Thanks for the quick reply Eddy! I forgot about that troubleshooting step, I did try it last night but without any luck. There are two .bat scripts under All Programs > TAP-Windows > Utilities:

  1. Add a new TAP virtual ethernet adapter
  2. Delete ALL TAP virutal ethernet adapter

I first tried the add script and OpenVPN still was unable to update the routing table. I then ran the delete all script followed by the add new TAP adapter script and received the same errors in the OpenVPN log as before.

Check network connections.
Is there a disabled connection?
Something like Local Area Connection 3.
If so, right click and enable it.
Then try to connect to the client again.
