Would it be difficult for a Virus to under the radar without being detected by Avast professional?

recently I have been told by a so called computer expert that “Would it be difficult for a Virus to under the radar without being detected by Avast professional?” and also that it would be difficult for a virus to go undetected without users knowledge.

I am looking for your professional opinion on the matter.

Where Blackshades was a RAT that was able to go undetected by Anti virus software.

No anti virus programs have 100% protection, so answer to your question is yes.

A virus (or better malware) always is there before there is a cure.
It is just like with human viruses, first a virus must be known before a cure can be developed.

Of course there is (amongst other techniques) the heuristic detection.
But who knows what (bad) people come up with?

But it is just not possible for one application to detect everything that is out there, let alone new things that will appear.
I recommend avast for real time protection and malwarebytes for periodic scanning (e.g. once a week), and a good hardware firewall.
But as it is with anything that you want to secure, it starts with the knowledge/skills of the human.

Ask yourself:
Can a burglar come into my house?
The answer is yes he can.
Can I keep a burglar from not entering?
The is no, you can’t.
Only thing you can do is making it as hard as possible for one to enter.

Almost all state sponsored malware goes un-detected! The US Government (largest Malware producer in the world) works directly with Microsoft.

With Stuxnet, they used a Microsoft update to remove the malware was it was found, to remove all traces of existence.
