awsrvrt.sys hangs on safe mode..can't get into windows

Hi, I am unable to boot into windows 7 sp1 64bit.
Booting regularly and into last known good configuration hangs on the ‘Starting Windows’ screen.
Safe mode hangs on loading awsrvrt.sys
I booted into windows with a USB drive and ran FRST, I’ve attached the log here:

Help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Same problem here. My Father-In-Law has an older eMachines desktop with Windows XP on it. During boot-up it goes into a restart loop. It seems to be hanging up on the awsrvrt.sys driver. I have followed some instructions found on here and I am attaching the FRST.txt file for some help, if possible. Thank-you in advance for all of your help.

you should always start your own topics…
two users in same topic, posting logs, and then a helper posting separate fixes is going to be chaos ::slight_smile:

I’'m sorry. I will begin a new topic. That makes perfect sense.

@datguybk what happened prior to non-booting ?

Download the attached Fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST and press Fix
On completion a log will be generated please post that
Then try a normal boot

It would freeze in windows. I would reboot and it would freeze again in windows and the more often i rebooted, the less time it took to freeze, where after about 4 reboots it would not boot into windows at all.

I will try the fixlist.txt when I get home from work, thanks!

Edit: Worked! I am back in windows. Is there anything I should do to prevent this from happening again? The fixlog is attached.

Looking at what was done to restore it, it would appear that there was probably a bad shutdown which corrupted the registry

The only thing I can recommend is allow the system to shutdown properly before turning off

Glad it is now working

It is not working again. Booting normally is getting stuck at the same spot and now safe mode gets stuck on loading CLASSPNP.sys
I ran FRST again and attached the log

OK this looks like a system problem. First we will check the disc

From the command prompt run the following and press enter :

chkdsk c: /r

On completion try a reboot

I tried to do the chkdsk and the command prompt showed no errors and so I restarted. Still will not load into windows.
Then i tried to do a system restore and it will still not boot. Safe mode now gets stuck on loading disk.sys
I tried to reinstall windows but I don’t have the option to even format the drive (samsung 840 evo 250gb)

I would suspect that you have a hardware problem rather than software, it should not fail to boot after successfully rebooting

I tried to reinstall windows but I don't have the option to even format the drive (samsung 840 evo 250gb)
Has the hard drive failed ?
