Axoloti

I have had a short story
Axoloti by Julio Cortazar.htm
on my computer for some time.
This file was however moved to Chest at the weekly scan.
It is said that this file is infected: Threat VBS Malware gen.

Is this a well known virus?
Could you investigate this issue further to see if this is a bug or a real virus?
Could I move the file back from Chest?

(Earlier I think it was possible to send the file to you for a reply. I could not find this now)

I look forward to a serious answer.

in chest ,right-click on file and send to avast

hi liberty55,

Don’t worry, sending the file off to avast! does not remove the original copy. It will remain in the virus chest.

DavidR has a procedure for checking if a file in the chest is malicious or not by using Virus Total dot com. https://www.virustotal.com/en/ 40+ virus scanning engines are available at this site.

Create folder named “Suspect” (without the quotes) on the root of the C drive. Then open avast! program window and click Settings in upper right corner. Global Exclusions tab>enter the path C:\Suspect*.* and click OK. Restore a copy to to the Suspect folder. You now should be able to upload this file or any other file from here to Virus Total and scan it there as avast! is prevented from scanning the file as it is uploaded.

Post the VT scanning results in your next reply.

So far no reply from Avast on my question why this file was moved to chest.

You were given perfectly good answers.

Avast moved something it saw as suspicious/dangerous to quarantine.

The tools to check the status of this file were pointed out to you.

I sent this case (a short story) to Avast for a comment according to the procedures and nothing has been received.

A short story in plain English kept on my hard disk for several months,
could it suddenly be dangeroeus?
No testing will be made by me.
