I recently installed avast! 4.1.418. I had been previously using Norton 2004 Pro.
Today for the first time since that install, I ran Azureus 2.1.0.4 (Java 1.4.2_04) to download the latest Knoopix ISO. It’s 700MB so I had enough time to obseve the P2P Shield provider: zero files scanned. This is unlike the IM and Standard providers which, so far, have reported scan counts in the thousands.
I have the P2P sensitivity set to Custom with only Bittorent checked off, that being the only P2P app that I use these days.
Any reason(s) why avast! isn’t scanning Azureus Bittorrent activity?
From dictionary.com:
check off -v : put a check mark on or next to; “Please check each name on the list”; “tick off the items”
From my 40-year-old World Book Encyclopedia dictionary:
check off - to mark, especially on a list, as finished, acceptable, or requring no further attention.
“Checked off” is past tense of that phrase meaning that a check mark was placed next to the configuration item referenced in my original post.
Yes, I am wondering why avast! is not scanning my Azureus Bottorrent P2P sessions.
Aha, off (as I have learned in my English lessons) means out, not in use. Remember that English is for many off us not their first language
Anyway, back to the problem. So you have only bittorent scanning enabled in the p2p configuration. Is Azureus following the standard bittorent “rules” or is it somewhat different? If it uses eg password protected files, or archive files in another format than the original bittorent, Avast can’t scan them. Also when Azureus puts the files in another format on your drive than the original bittorent, this could be a problem. I am not sure how Azureus works, so I suggest wait a bit to see if someone else knows the application better than I do.
Try scanning a completed file. See if that is working.
In the mean time, you should be safe as long as you have on-access scanning on. Avast will scan the files as soon as you open/use them.
I belive …Custom with only Bittorent checked would be better then …Custom with only Bittorent checked off.
Some P2P derivates can work ok with avast! if they have the same method of storing or downloading part files. If these are too different, then avast! won’t scan them.
