Backup error

I am using Avast 2014.9.0.2013 and I am getting an “Access Denied” error message when backing the settings.
Note I was also getting this during the beta release and it was not resolved.

Is there any way to backup the settings and restoring without using the program?

Windows 7 Pro SP1
Private Firewall

I must admit that I haven’t seen this popup, on my system or the forums (possible I might have missed it though).

When you logon, are you using a limited user account ?
Unfortunately there is no means of backing up and restoration outside of the program as the settings are compiled into an .avastconfig file (see image extract of the compiled file contents).

Just tried it and no problems here, I also selected a folder other than that given by default.

Did you try to save it to a different folder location or the default My Documents/Documents and Settings, etc. etc.

I did try to save it in a different location and I get the same error.
I am logged in as Admin.

Here is where I posted the problem during the beta

I also posted it the Avast Feedback site during beta

You could try an avast! Repair, but given that you have had this in the last beta (?) it may be best to do a clean install of 9.0.2013.

Well, I did a clean uninstall using Avast removal tool.
Cleaned up registry using various registry cleaners.
Removed any lingering folders.

Reinstalled Avast and tried to backup standard setting (default after install) and the error is still there.

Any other suggestions would be helpful.

The problem is not knowing why there is a permissions “Access Denied” error or that mentioned in your feedback post (“Error while exporting settings. Access Denied”), if it is windows or avast!

Given all that you have done and the fact that you also had it in the beta I’m leaning more to a windows error. But as an avast user like yourself I can’t say for sure, this will need some avast team input.

Thanks for your response.

Let’s see if someone from Avast will respond with a comment.

You’re welcome.

I have tried to draw attention to this topic.

Thanks
