Bank mode not opening - latest build 108 cannot be obtained since today.

Hello,

I launched avast secure browser today, bank mode did not open, so I uninstalled it, I had the latest version 108… As the secure browser exe does not download from the secure browser web page, I downloaded the exe from this forum in this pinned thread “New browser version 108.0”. With this secure browser exe when I install it I don’t have the bank mode in the security center (and it’s not version 108 but 107). As I had an old exe of 1 to 2 weeks, I tried this one, the bank mode is there but if the browser is not defined by default the bank mode does not open (and also it is version 107 not 108, and does not update to 108).
When the browser is not set by default and I open bank mode, only the bank mode icon appears for a few seconds in the windows taskbar.

I wanted to download offline installer exe but it does not download, I tested other avast products in the list of offline installer exe, nothing can be downloaded. The servers must have a problem.

Hello,
we are working on this and the issue will be hopefully solved soon.
Sorry for inconvenience caused and thank you for reporting!

Hi,
we just released the fix for the Bank Mode issue and it’s being distributed as an independent update.
To install the update, open your Antivirus, go Settings - General - Update, click on “Check for updates” button under the Antivirus version and restart your computer.
Sorry for inconvenience caused!

Thank you, bank mode is working.

Hello!

Bank Mode is still not working. I am running Avast Premium Security, and I have updated several times but the problem remains the same. Any suggestion, please?

Hi,

I updated Again my antivirus, restarted my computer, and finally the Bank Mode is working. Thanks!

Here it is Oct. 2025. The issue is still there. I found out that if I wait 2-4 minutes, the secure browser will finally launch. But It’s still a pain if I need immediate access.

Updating the AV and secure bowser software seemed to work at first, but the problem eventually returned.

This isn’t a computer based issue, as it occurred on 3 different computers. (7, 10 update, 10 default install.) 32 and 64 bit. Wish they could fix it someday, not willing to go to a paid version until they fix it and get rid of all the fake warnings.

Hi,

could you please share more details on what is not working for you? Please also provide the diagnostic information, this would help the investigation a lot.

Thanks!

Sandu

I usually start Bank mode from the Avast right click menu. As stated, there is an extreme delay at random times. Sometimes it works just fine.

While troubleshooting, Avast Secure Browser would not open for several minutes either. I was trying to open Bank mode from there.

Upon checking task manager, there are several instances. it won’t allow me to end task. Once the browser finally starts, there is just one instance.

Completely removing and reinstalling is not a solution, as the problem always returns.

I think maybe the updater is the problem. …(Took 3 minutes to open the browser)…

An error occurred while checking for updates: Update check failed to start (error code 3: 0X80040154 – system level).

I see that I can ignore other programs in the software updater, but no mention of Avast Secure Browser. I’ve heard that the browser check is now mandatory.

Is there a way disable the Secure Browser automatic updater so I can manually check it?

It seems that your installation is corrupted and you got stuck on 132 version (we now have 141.0 available).

What I would recommend is to enable Avast sync, to make sure you keep passwords, history, bookmarks etc. Then you can use the Avast Browser uninstall tool to remove any Avast Browser files and folders completely.

After that you can download the latest installer from our webpage: Private Browser Download - Free App | Avast Secure Browser

Yes, as many have stated, the automatic updater is corrupting things, so that it can’t be updated from the browser. Maybe you should find out why this keeps happening.

Doing a repair install from Windows corrects the problem, at least until it gets corrupted again.

The repair install updated it to 140, and then the browser took a very long time to update to 141.

Since the automatic updater refuses to even open the browser until after an error is received, we need a way to keep the updater isolated from the browser.

How about a prompt stating “An update is available, do you want to download it now?” That way there would be little chance of corruption during high CPU activity…

As expected, it got corrupted again, just one week after forcing updates to 141.

But this time it was worse, Avast safe browser never opened, even after 10 minutes.

Once again, I had to do a repair install to fix it. Time to stop/kill the automatic corruptor!
