I have used Avast for a few months now. For the first time to-day I cannot log into my bank. When I spoke to them about it, they said it was a problem with Avast. I do not know what the problem is or what I should do. Can anyone advise me?
What is the exact problem? (error message?)
What OS?
What version of Avast?
What vps version?
What made them think it is Avast?
If Avast has always worked with your online banking, and you didn’t changed a setting in Avast then it is not likely that Avast is causing this.
I always say: “If people at a bank give advise about computers, get another bank” ;D
Thanks, for answering me. I am using Avast 4.5 Home Edition. It says VPS file (virus database). The Error message I get says 'Your request cannot be completed. Please call… I my believe OS is Microsoft Windows 2000. I have not (knowingly) changed any settings. The reason the bank said it was Avast was because I said it was my ‘virus protection’. I know very little about computers. So if this is not a common problem I may not be able to look into it myself. Thank you so much for your reply.
You can always try this:
- disable on-access protection
-go to the banking site and try to login to your account
At least it will tell us a little bit more.
I checked ‘Disable VRDB generation’. ( I hope this is corret). Then I tried to sign in but it didn’t work. Thanks for your help.
No, I ment:
- right click the blue ball with the “A”
- choose “stop on-access protection”
- than try again to login to the bank site

Do you use a firewall on your computer of any kind? If so and it’s turned on have you been able to get into your bank account with it turned on in the past? Just curious.
I ‘stopped on on access protection’. Then tried my banking again and it did not work.
(Note: each time I try to sign in I got to ‘internet options’ and delete the files and cookies…and history). Now how do I turn on the 'access protection? Thanks, again.
Ok, so it looks like it is not Avast. (as I expected)
To turn on-access protection back on:
- right click the blue ball
- choose “on-access protection control”
- click start
For your problem:
- disable your firewall and try again
Thats what I was asking Kiyi in my previous post. Kiyi never bothered to answer me. Se la ve! or asi es la vida! :
Thanks, I was able to turn it on again. I don’t know how to deal with the ‘firwall’ as I don’t understand it at all. I will have to get someone in to fix this for me. You have been very patient. And another person replied…but I was fiddleing with this and didn’t get to him. Sorry to him.
If you have a friend that can show you how to turn off a firewall on your pc you might have that done. If it’s turned off you may be able to then do your banking.
Yes, I will. It is my son…I tried to do it on my own…but as always I have to call him. Thanks so much for your help.
