Have been using Avast 4 with XP with OUtlook 2003. I can’t figure out the following:
- how to “unmark” a message that has been wrongly marked as spam (“this is not spam”)
- How to permanently ban email addresses or domains from showing up in my inbox (I keep getting the same spam emails over and over and over from same domains and/or email addresses and can’t seem to get them out of my inbox, short of deleting them which possibly sends the sender of these the message that this IS a valid email address.) I wish these weren’t spam emails because apparently someone very rich has left me a lot of money and the Barrister just needs me to contact him to claim it!!!
- When I double click on the Avast icon and it brings up the control panel box under the “Outlook/Exchange” it says “The provider is looking for a subsystem to start”. Could this be the problem?
- So - is there a pdf “instruction” manual —
Thanks so much for the help…
- avast isn’t an anti-spam, so I’m not ure what you mean by marked as spam, that I would assume is to do with outlook 2003 rather than avast.
- again avast isn’t an anti-spam application, it isn’t checking for spam but infected email. You would need to set that up in outlook or use an anti-spam application (I use mailwasher pro) to filter spam at source, the email server. http://www.google.com/search?q=Outlook+2003+anti-spam
- This usually means that Outlook isn’t running yet.
- Only the avast help file, no pdf as far as I’m aware.
Sorry I can’t be of much practical help, I don’t use Outlook 2003 only OE.
Thank you - you HAVE been helpful. As a previous Norton IS user, I forgot that it encompassed both virus scanning and anti-spam and yes, it is the anti-spam I was missing. I had tried another product “Spamfighter” which locked up Outlook no matter how many security updates I installed or what I tried to do. I will investigate the link you sent. Thank you again.
No problem, glad I could help.
