BEEP ?

I’m curious… From time to time Avast will make a little ( quarky ) Beep , and then the Icon does a little dance ( Spin  ) .
What does this signify ?
It does’nt bother me but I’d like to know what it means .

If you go to the control panel and than to the sound options you can see what sounds Avast is using for what and change them if you wish to do so.

You can also do it from Avast > Menu > Settings > Sounds

Ohh… I actually like the sounds Eddy . I’d just like to know what the beep and dance signify ;D

When the blue ball with the A spins, it means Avast is scanning something.

When the ball stands still, open a application eg word or so, and look at the ball. It will start to spin since you are accessing files. It is the on-access scanner that kicks in.

Well , I understand that when the dance is being performed that Avast is scanning but what does that Beep mean ?
It occurs only while viewing we-pages.

B.T.W. If that a true Green - Beret ; Thanks ;D

I’m not sure if the sound comes from avast!. No such sound used in it as far as i can tell.

No sound here either.

If scientists' are correct ; and Man did evolve from monkey , then how do the scientists' explain where the monkies came from ?
Elephants maybe? ;D ;D

Probably your pop-up killer?
Which browser do you use? ::slight_smile:

Well , I have 3 different pop-up killers and I have them all turned off as you cannot view most sites without viewing pop-ups so the sound that I’m referring to should’nt be any of my pop-up killers .
However , I did what Eddy said and looked where he said and the sound file sounds identical to :
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\English\ready

But I don’t get what the ready sound would be getting ready for when It’s already running ?

That sound is associated with ‘Task Done’.
Are you sure avast wasn’t doing some other task and it was just a coincidence?

You may also be getting the beep when a task is starting.

UUummmm. Like I said guys ,
The ball Icon does It’s little Dance [ Spin ] and stops dancin’ then she [ beeps ] ;D

Okay ,
This is an Update !
Apparently , Avast had nothing to do with the persistant BEEP !
However , theres some program assosiated with the BEEP .
I made it to where Avast scrolled up all that it processed and the next time it BEEPED , The program is called " PREFTECH " .

Does anyone know anything about this program ? I cannot seem to access the program itself .
It also let me know what the program was that was running in the background while I try to shutdown , again , " PREFTECH " . What is this ?
It should’nt be any kind of spyware ( I don’t think so ) if it is spyware then AdWare seems to look over it .

Here’s what Prefetch is:

  1. New to Windows XP
  2. A file caching system
  3. Microsoft says the following:

“Windows XP monitors the files that are used when computer starts and also when you start applications. By monitoring these files, Windows XP can prefetch them. Prefetching data is the process whereby data that is expected to be requested is read ahead into the cache. Prefetching boot files and applications decreases the time needed to start Windows XP and start applications.”

It is recomended to clear your prefetch directory often and, yes, you can manually empty the contents of c:\windows\prefetch. No, there should be no damage from deleting the files you find there.

preftech or prefetch?

just noticed that myself… my bad

there’s also a preftech.com
