Before I install for first time?

Getting set to try out Avast AV for the first time and want to know if I need to do anything with my Norton 2002 program before I do.

Will they coexist for a short time?

Do I have to uninstall Norton 2002?

Suggestions for a trouble free install?

System- XP home with Norton AV 2002 and Zonealarm Pro vs 5.1.011.000 9ZA av not set up just firewall)

Thanks in advance. :-\

Having two resident scanners installed is not recommended as rather than provide twice the protection it can cause conflicts that could leave you more vulnerable.

Norton is probably the worst at co-existing with any other AV.

NAV can be a pig to get rid of. First use the add remove programs to uninstall and reboot.

Then install avast and reboot.

If NAV proves difficult to remove:
This link, which is for a program removal tool that can remove the remnants of a number of different Norton Programs:
Removing your Norton program using SymNRT, just checked and it only goes as far back as the 2003 version :frowning:

You could try this I don’t know if it will work for 2002 also. - The NAV 2003 removal tool can be downloaded here: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/misc/consumer/Rnav2003.exe

Yes you will have to uninstall norton 2002 first.
Removal instructions amd a tool can be found here.

Ah you beat me to it DavidR! The tool should work according to the link above. I believe I used it before.

Makes a change, with my two finger touch typing, I probably started hours befor eyou but inly finished minutes earlier ;D

Two fingers?? I’m up to three. I use the Columbus method…discover a key and land on it!

That could be an excuse for me, I can type with 10 fingers 8)

Don’t the other 7 get in the way and tangled up? ??? ::slight_smile:

For sure not, each finger to a group of keys in the keyboard, the same finger to the same group all the time 8)
It’s easy, but you need to learn and train.
