Beginner having multiple problems

Okay, I bought Avast! premier on the 15th, and so far not so good. I left a support ticket then reporting my problems, which has not as yet been replied to. I’m hoping this forum might be a better bet.

My problems are as follows…

  1. When I visited Avast’s website I was given the option of an extended free 60 day trial of your Premier product and told I would be billed for the first year only after that 60 day period had expired. However, what they have sent me appears to show that I am going to be billed now, and the product will expire in 12 months (not 14 months as it should if I get my free 60 days).

  2. SecureLine VPN shows “product not yet activated”. It does offer me the option to purchase the product to resolve this issue. However, I have already bought and paid for this product - as the invoice they sent me shows. How do I activate this feature without being charged for the same service twice?

  3. In the setup process I was told I could alter my privacy settings if I wanted to stop you collecting data on me. I do. However, now that setup is complete, I can’t seem to find the info on how to do this.

Anyone here feel able to help? Is this typical of the Avast experience?

Don’t post another or update to your support ticket as that could drop it further down the order (first in first out). Ordinarily can take up to 10 working days for a response other than perhaps an auto response of receipt - which as an avast user I don’t feel is good enough.

What is the support ticket ID number ?

You say that you purchased the avast Premier version on the 15th, is that what has been taken ?

I’m not familiar with this 60 extended free trial and not paying until the end of that - for me that would only work if you hadn’t already paid and were using the Avast Premier version on the 30 days trial - if you had already paid but not yet entered your license number, I can’t see how they can reverse any payment already used.

There is an on-line contact form, http://www.avast.com/contact-form.php?loadStyles for: Sales inquiries, etc. This is separate from the support ticket system, so shouldn’t impede and support ticket action - give as much information as this allows and especially the support ticket ID and perhaps a link to this topic.

  1. If you actually purchased Avast Premier on the 15th, then the beginning of the license period started then. The option of a 60 day trial would have let you use the program 60 days before purchasing.

  2. SecureLine VPN is a separate subscription that requires it’s own payment. There is an interface link in Avast, but the actual usage is not free, nor is it’s use included in any Avast product purchase price.

  3. I can’t find it in Avast 2015 either.

Thank you David & Gopher for responding. Incidentally, my apologies to all for accidentally posting my initial post twice (and thank you to whatever mod deleted one of them - I was quite embarrassed).

To answer your questions:

My ticket number is #BDS-639-18522

I thought I did buy VPN separately, but I double checked the invoice and maybe the mistake here was my own. Is Avast SecureLine different? If so I’m not quite sure what each one does.

I did try the alternate contact David suggested. Gopher, I will remember to report back here if I get an answer to our mutual problem re the privacy issue.

You’re welcome.

The duplicate isn’t your fault - no need to feel embarrassed - this is a forum bug, avast are still trying to find and squash it.

Thanks. Good to know!

I finally got a reply on my ticket. On the matter of changing the privacy settings, they tell me to go to Avast!, click on settings, then, under the General tab, uncheck the “Participate in the Avast community” box.

Jeez… prompt customer service… not exactly their forte, huh?

But this also reduces the efficiency of whole Avast community and the ability to detect malware all over the world…
Files and info won’t be submitted to analysis.

Besides, the information collected is stripped of personally identifiable information so it has less to do with privacy. I seem to remember a more fine grained setting in older versions of Avast, but it’s been a while.
