My wife has successfully used Corel Photo House (and Print House) on her computer for some time. Since she does not used it all that frequently we only just discovered that Avast Free, installed in February of this year, appears to keep Photo House from opening. Instead the error message “Photo House has encountered a problem and needs to close” is displayed. By trial and error I determined that it is Avast Free, and specifically the Behavior Shield portion of Avast, that causes the problem. When I stop the Behavior Shield the problem goes away and Photo House opens and works as it should and used to.
The non Photo House portion of Print House works fine. The problem arises regardless of whether Photo House is accessed directly (i.e. through its short-cut), from Print-House, or by attempting to open a jpeg picture file. Also the jpeg picture files themselves open fine with other software, e.g. Windows Picture Viewer and the Kodak EasyShare programs. Finally, uninstalling/ reinstalling Photo House does not help.
Is there a solution other than temporarily disabling the Behavior Shield?
