Behavior shield makes running an executable from lan incredibly slow

I have noticed that with the behavior shield on, when I try to run an executable (e.g. an installer) from a lan location (e.g. from my file server) it takes a loooooong time for it to start. This is more evident for larger files (exactly like installers), but it is noticeable even with a 1mb file. Turning the behavior shield off speeds up execution by more than 10 times, even possibly more than 100 times (no I am not exaggerating, the difference is ridiculously HUGE).

On my desktop pc it is simply annoying, but my netbook practically hangs and needs a reboot. This means I have the option to either not use a file server and have every file I need on every pc (Avast, will you buy me 10 3gb HDDs?) or turn the Behavior shield off.

Would you please look into it?

Which avast…??
Which version…??
OS…??

Latest avast version 6.0.1289 free version

Same problem on win7 x64 and win7 x86

Other security related software installed…??

Comodo free firewall. Firewall only enabled (no defense+)
Although I don’t see how its got anything to do with it.
Disabling comodo doesn’t change anything. But, as i said, disabling behavior shield fixes the problem, so it’s all avast.

Hmm, others haven’t got such problems.
Which AV did you use before…??

I have been using avast for over a year, on all my home PCs. Up till recently, I was actually using the file server pc as my workstation, and nobody else had complained to me, but the other people in my house aren’t terribly computer savvy. However, after a crash last month, I had to format the c: drive of the file server and re-install windows, so I started using a different pc and noticed the problem. However, I am pretty sure it is a relatively recent development, since I don’t remember having the problem a few months back when I was installing software through the lan to my netbook. So I think the problem showed up in the last version or the one before that, maybe.

Also note that the problem is on the client pc side. Disabling behavior shield just on the client pc solves the problem. Also, I doubt this is just me, since I have the same problem on all my PCs, all running various versions of win7.

Ah ha just what I was searching for. Looks like my problem is related to this one.

Running executables from the LAN actually kills my PC totally.

For example, the latest Firefox 8 install package EXE will cause the machine to be unresponsive except for the mouse pointer. Clicking on anything or doing C-A-D does nothing. Eventually the mouse pointer will stop moving and a hard reset is required.

If I copy the EXE to the local drive to run it, everything works fine.

I uninstalled AVAST and installed MS Security Essentials (didn’t want to be unprotected).
Running EXEs from the LAN works fine. So it is definitely an AVAST related issue.

(was) running AVAST Pro 6.0.1289. OS is Win7 x64 Ultimate.

Since I am not the only one with this problem after all, can someone please look at it?

??? Nobody gonna look into this?
I have a paid for license I currently can’t use.

Have you tried the latest program version yet?
(see here for details).

Thanks
Vlk

Will do now it’s out of beta.

Thanks.

??? No change, still kills the machine running EXE from LAN.
