I have three computers xp-vista-7. I installed the update 5.1.864 from the GUI of the program on all three. They all seem to be working ok. But on the windows 7 computer(64bit) the number of files scanned by the shields file system-web-network-script will run into the hundreds withing 30 minutes but the behavior shield will show low numbers like maybe only 1 as when I try to undate superantispyware program. One time it did get to 30 when java tried to do something. So what I am asking is it normal for behavior shield to run in the 10’s while the other shields run in the 100’s on the windows 7 64bit and xp-vista run 100’s in all shields. So behavior shield is showing scanned numbers but it seems like it is not doing much on the windows 7 machine so do I need to install a clean version or leave things alone. The windows 7 is 64 bit, 8 gig ram, 1 tera hard drive, hp machine fully updated with microsoft updates. I should say the xp is the free avast and the vista and windows7 are the pay pro version.
What I want is just to know if this looks like what everyone else is getting so I can compare and decide if everything is ok or if I should uninstall and download new copy for the windows 7 64bit machine. Thanks slybo
I typically have about 10 (8 right now) on my win 7 64 bit system. This is probably normal because the other shields monitor things that change constantly, whereas the behavior shield monitors other things that don’t change as much (at least that is how I understand it)
Thanks for the reply spg SCOTT. That is what I wanted to hear. I was just surprised that there was such a difference between xp-vista and the windows 764bit machines making me think the windows 7 avast was not working properly. Hope more people will let me know what they are showing. Thanks again, do not want to reinstall unless I have to, the old if it is not broken leave it alone.
On my XP Pro system I only have 14 recorder shortly after boot. As far as I’m aware, it is more dependant on what you have installed than the OS, but I understand your question as previously the BeS didn’t do anything on 64bit OSes.
Yes I do run lean. I only have avast running for protection, even turned off defender. I do use malwarebytes and superantispyware but on demand scan only. I use the windows firewall, have a router with firewall. So as you say dependant on what I have installed I guess it should run low but with the xp it picks up a lot more and I have the same setup as the windows 7. I guess everything is ok just the difference in the OS. Thanks for your reply DavidR
My windows7 64 bit system only ever shows up to about 10 items scanned by avast BS. The only thing I ever catch it scanning is something called guard64.dll.
Since latest boot the w7 64bit behaviour shield has analyzed no events at all.
Question is whether that means that avast have now told it to treat everything it was previously scanning on my system as legitimate, or it has just stopped doing anything!
I’ll assume the former for the time being.
I have also been getting 0/0 the last 24 hours with restart and shutdowns. The only time it picks up anything is when I update superantispyware it will show that and I will have 1/0. Looked under Behavior Shield. txt and it does not show anything, and also noticed the txt looks and reads as if it is the file system shield txt, has anyone else noticed this. I also assume it is still working because it did pick up the one item but I wonder if I should install clean version. Does anyone know?
How do you mean it looks like File system shield?
Did you scroll down to the end? entries are added at the end.
Here is the last 2 entries I copied and will paste here from the Behavior Shield txt file

Forgot to say I would think it would say Behavior not Real time?
ok maybe I was looking at it wrong they all say real time shield and you just have to see which one you opened, is that it. But why does it not show the entry for superantisypware?
No idea :-\
I don’t think it will log everything it analyses - only things that it blocks (possibly also things that it asks about if you have it setup that way?).
I’m not really concerning myself too much about the behaviour shield in 5.1. I think we’ll probably get more ifo about what it can do and how to use it when 6.0 comes along. 5.1 seems to be a sort of large scale info gathering phase for behaviour shield (a super-beta?!).
Now that I look at it I would agree, it doesn’t record everything it scans, just things (I presume) that it would make a decision on (depending on the settings)
oh, and at the moment, I only have one thing scanned so far

Unfortunately there is no Report File section in the Behaviour Shield, Expert Settings, in which you could change the reporting, e.g. add OK Items (what it had scanned). I don’t know if this would be a useful function or just end up with a massive report file.
Ok, so everything is working as should with my update and I understand, Thanks. Good to know I am not the only one with the low numbers.
It must be because you have Win 7 and maybe 64 bit is also the reason for it showing almost nothing scanned. Mine on Vista Ultimate 32 bit currently shows 12,502 items scanned. This computer was rebooted about 24 hour ago and not used until now.
