Behavior Shield turned off at startup - again!

Multiple times a week the Behavior Shield is turned off when I start my computer in the morning. Usually turning it on the UI works, but this morning I had to repeat this to get the shield to stay on.

Things I have tried:

  1. Reported to Avast three times over last two months, and sent them log files, but no reply.
  2. Repair
  3. Full uninstall (avastclear, safemode) and reinstall

Using Windows 7 SP1 (all Microsoft updates installed), no other virus software has ever been installed, using Avast Free 18.4.2338

Anyone have any suggestions, or any recommendations on a better antivirus program? This problem combined with Rescue Disk being broken and not fixed really makes Avast look bad!

Hi priestlucas123,

could you try to create full memory dump of your machine during the startup couple of times, zipped them and send them to us for an analysis?

We aren’t able to reproduce this behavior and we are looking for someone to provide us the dump. There is let’s say 1 minute windows which can be used to create a dump after start/reboot.

How to setup the dump creation is here https://success.trendmicro.com/solution/1059775-generating-a-full-memory-dump-on-windows-server-2008-r2-and-windows-7 or https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/debugger/enabling-a-kernel-mode-dump-file

Setting up the blue screen hot keys https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/debugger/forcing-a-system-crash-from-the-keyboard

Thanks and regards,
PDI

Set up computer, now waiting for problem to occur.

What should I do with memory.dmp file once generated?

You can upload your dump(s) here: ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming/
Pick a unique name (and post it here), so the devs can find it. Thanks

uploading two files, should be done in about 3 hours

LP Behavior Shield did start at startup.zip
LP Behavior Shield didn’t start at startup.zip

Sorry, but only half way uploading first of two files took over four hours and I don’t have another 12+ hours to wait.

So the problem with the Behavior Shield not starting when the computer is turned on still happens on occasion. Based on information in Event Viewer it seems that if other programs, either started automatically or by the user, take up too much computer resources at startup before the Behavior Shield starts then it times out.

While this isn’t an Avast program issue it would be nice if there was something Avast could do if a timeout occurs.

A problem I haven’t seen in quite a few month. May be related to the “power” of your system.

See attached below for a settings change might help you:

Hardware virtualization may not work on your system, untick that and reboot after either or both setting changes.
