I’ve outpost firewall pro and it has HIPS protection, beside that I’ve Avast Pro 4.8 and MBAM (Piad Version). do I need Threatfire now?
In my opinion, no. All that will happen is that you might have to answer a few extra popups, for perceived (or genuine) malicious behaviour.
I would say your level of protection is extremely good. No need to overdo it.
(That said, it assumes that Outposts’ HIPS is OK, a good one. I don’t actually know. HIPS in general, working correctly, and correctly responded to, are powerful security tools.)
Thank you, Tarq57.
I’ve set my outpost host protection to Advanced Level and it seems working nice, I had SuperAntiSpyware Pro and KeyScrambler and Treatfire Pro too, but I’ve removed them to speed up my computer. I was wondering if I’m still protected or not…
Did you notice a significant performance increase, Omid?
I think you are definitely adequately protected, provided you answer any alerts correctly.
Hope you also have a backup and recovery plan.
Yes, I feel my windows is working more smooth, Browser (itself, not time to open a site) open a few faster, somethings like players and other programs lunch faster and I feel it’s working better with less delay.
no no no!!! don’t talk about recovery!!! I don’t want do it again it would take about 2 days to me… it’s not just a few programs…!!
Just get yourself a program, like Norton Ghost, Acronis, or the free Macrium Reflect, and back up all your data to another medium every so often. Like an external hard drive.
What’s the weather like in Iran? One of many countries I’ve never seen.
Ok, I did try Norton Ghost a few days ago and could not find it interesting, I was a Norton GoBack fan years ago!
I would try another program to do that
it’s a bad winter this year, a warm winter like summer no snow and no rain… it’s just 1-2 days we had raining days… if you like to visit Iran, welcome!
With Outpost + avast + MBAM installed I think Threatfire is redundant, too much resources will be taken for not a significant protection level.
and so, what about Spyware Terminator instead of Threatfire?
They are like chalk and cheese so they aren’t the same so shouldn’t be an option to swap. ST doesn’t have HIPS, unless you are reading something that isn’t in their features list, http://www.spywareterminator.com/features/antispyware-features.aspx.
You aren’t right - ST does have HIPS. I’m successfully using HIPS on ST.
There is another problem with ST. They have two versions of the program: 2.3 and 2.5. The 2.3 is reliable and unobtrusive, and users of 2.5 constantly report about crashes, freezes, files disappearings and other severe troubles. I can’t understand the developers - why did they insist that 2.5 is “more reliable and more progressive”?
They need to make that clear in their features then, that is where I came to the conclusion wrongly that it didn’t.
and so, what about Spyware Terminator instead of Threatfire? No need. You have a HIPS in the firewall, a very good antispyware in MBAM, a very good AV in Avast. ST is only going to add a slowdown, with little - if any - increase of protection.
For those interested, http://www.spywareterminator.com/ (3rd bullet) ST dows include HIPS protection. It is not exhaustive, I can’t remember the areas it doesn’t cover, sorry, stopped using ST some time ago when development appeared to turn the wrong way.
I tried it for a very short time I didn’t really like it and preferred SAS. I subsequently bought the SAS Pro version for a small one off payment and then found MBAM, compared to SAS and MBAM, ST comes in third IMHO.
I second this.
yeah, after using that for about 1 hour and doing some test I found it not useful and just slow down my PC and asking bother questions…
Well i think if im not wrong if i was you i would choice
Avast 4.8 Pro
Outpost Firewall Pro
Spybot S&D (good anti spyware)
Mcafee site advisor (or another site advisor but well its not required because you got a web guard in avast)
Just that for my opinion its protect alot and didnt slow your pc i think
@Mr.Agent: Thank you.
