Does anyone know which is the best FireWall to use with Avast, Kerio or ZoneAlarm ? At present I’m using Kerio.

most firewalls work fine with avast…no matter it’s kerio…zonealarm…or sygate etc
I have been using OutPost Firewall and Avast together for about a week now under Windows XP SP2RC1 and there have been no problems. I am very impressed how Outpost and Avast have worked with Microsoft’s new security package.

i use the free version of zone alarm with 4home, no problems at all.
Mac my friend, I used to use Outpost Free version. Firewall is wonderful, I still think it’s the best firewall ever… Now, I’m on Sygate, but I’m thinking of returning to my Outpost again…
Btw, I didn’t use all those extra features in Outpost, I just needed good software firewall that is light on system resources to accompany my wonderful Hardware firewall… Outpost is great choice !

Regarding Avast!/firewall compatibility.
I have been using Avast Home freeware A/V with the Zone Alarm Home free edition & no problems. I run Win XP home.
BUT, I’m thinking of getting ZoneAlarm “Pro” with “Pest Patrol” to deal with popups, spyware, trojans, etc.
Any advice?

Service Pack 2 for XP will add more security to Internet Explorer and a pop-up blocker. Also the firewall will be improved.

Spyware Blaster is adding all suspicious websites to the restricted zone of Internet Explorer. The list of websites is frenquently updated. -
Look for an Internet Explorer rerplacement like slimbrowser, myIE2, Avant Browser.

These browsers are based on Internet Explorer with additional features, like pop-up blockers, ActiveX restriction, etc.

When refering an IE replacement why not suggest Mozilla or Opera which are “Real” replacement browsers and not something based on IE ?
When I was reading the question of this user, I got a strong feeling that he was searching for some features and improvements, not for replacements. Firefox and opera do have advantages (I used them both) and disadvantages. Did you get Microsoft Update working in these browsers?
Anyway, when my goal is to suggest REAL replacements, then I would strongly suggest to install freeBSD as operating system and KDE or Gnome as Windows shell. There you go!
I’d like to suggest one other alternate Browser called:
GreenBrowser. It’s a tabbed browser with pop-up and content blocking abitilies.
I’ve been using it fore quite some time as my default browser.

I have used Zone Alarm (free), Sygate firewall (free) and now am using Outpost (free version 1.0). I have tried others and have found that Outpost works just great with Avast. Have not had any problems with this combination. I have been using Outpost for about 5 months with a couple of different Anti Virus programs thence am down to just using Avast as I believe it offers the best protection. ;D Of course this is just my opinion and there are alot of those floating around. ;)I use Win Me btw.

The issue of firewalls and Avast has come up many times, and there is really no one way to go. As has been said here in the previous posts, all combinations have been tried on various operating systems.
I guess my contribution here will be to name each of the “free” front runners and my experiences with them.

Firewalls can be application based or rule based.
Application based fws are very user friendly and “learn” pretty much by themselves. Rule based allow “customization” of how programs access the internet, and the user can restrict them or extend their access as wishes dictate. They do require a bit more knowledge and configuration.
ZA is application based. Very easy to use. Works fine in all OS, and with Avast.
Sygate is App/Rule. It can be used “out of the box” without any special configuration or customized. I have set special rules since I use IE and have increased security when IE accesses the net.
Sygate can be unstable at times in my Win98 but works fine with ME and XP. Sygate loves Avast.
Kerio is also App/Rule based. I used it twice but removed it. I did not like the constant “popup permission windows”. Although it got along fine with Avast, it did not get along with me. :
Outpost was fine. Stable, user friendly and was ok with Avast.
Tiny Personal firewall has a difficult learning curve and I do not recommend it, although it does a very good job of securing a computer.
I stick with ZA and Sygate on my Win98/ME/XP systems.

in simple say, Kerio PF 4.x is like lighter and simpler version of Tiny PF 5.x but sadly KPF fails to prevent trojans trying to low level inject into processes and services …
