I have heard very good things about Avira AntiVir Free and Microsoft Security Essentials and currently I use MSE together with Windows Firewall + Common Sense + Malwarebytes.
I don’t need a fancy and pricy AV because I know a free one can be just as good if you actually know what you do and what sites you visit/things you download and I’m not gonna shell out hundreds of dollars a year.
So it all comes down to this. What FREE AV is the best out there? Which one would you recommend? Don’t be so quck to judge an AV just because it’s a certain corp. that made it.

Regardless, no offense, but you have come to the wrong forum looking for a straight answer, of course people here are going to tell you to choose Avast!..anyway, only you can determine what is right for your system, and the best way to do that is try a product and see for yourself.
Aside from posting in the avast business protection sub-forum, there is no free business version of avast.
Since you are on the official avast support forums, I think you can gauge our response.
Best is also subjective and depends on a users individual needs, avast free suite my needs best. Good protection, highly configurable, multiple shields and levels of protection, relatively light on resources.
