Best Free Firewall to use with Avast?

What’s the best firewall to use with Avast free? I hear there is so many out there like Comodo and such but i have no idea what to choose like if one would have compatibility issues with Avast free or not… Any ideas?

Hi, if you run W7 or higher, you’re good to go with the built-in FW in Windows.

I’ve used Comodo Firewall with Avast for years and they work well together.

+1 Windows FW
Always been my choice when running Avast Free.

I would query its use on w7 as outbound protection if off by default (as far as I can recall) and if you do enable outbound protection the user has to set the rules. For many this won’t be something they are aware of or really want to do.

Hi Dave, nope. (Guess you mean XP.)

No, I meant W7, I’m sure there was a small program that could be run ‘Windows Firewall Control’ in conjunction with the windows firewall, to create outbound rules.

Which was why I had the Windows Firewall in W7 disabled and installed a paid firewall option. Mind you this was some time ago.

THere was/is however I found it, for my purpose ‘overly’ complicated. For FW settings I always found Outpost Pro far easier to configure…then again I was used to outpost.

Guys, before we dig deeper here, I’d suggest to wait for a reply from the OP.

A third-party firewall is a power-user tool — not an essential piece of security software. The Windows firewall is solid and trustworthy. While people can quibble about the Microsoft Security Essentials/Windows Defender virus detection rate, the Windows firewall does just as good a job of blocking incoming connections as other firewalls.

Will we be getting a response from the OP ???

From the looks of things everyone is more supportive of the Windows Firewall… Looks like i am sticking with it unless i upgrade to avast internet security.

Thanks for the replies everyone. It means a lot.

You’re welcome.
