Best Partners With Avast! Free

I know there has been many of these, but I just want to know. My Avast licence is due to expire in a week’s time, and I’m thinking of getting Avast Free. Now I read over multiple threads that Avast and Malwarebytes Free/Pro work together happily. I was also thinking of installing MC Shield, but I was worried as both Malwarebytes Pro and MC Shield have both Real Time scanning.
What do you suggest?
P.S. I do need something that will scan any USB that I connect, just like MC Shield.

All three of those programs will work fine together :).

Avast will scan files on the usb stick/hd (or whatever you connect) if they are approached. No worries about that.
As for Malwarebytes, it is good to have it. Just disable the realtime scanning and run it e.g. once a week.
There is no need to have MC Shield as avast already takes care of the usb scanning.

no security program have 100% detection … as we all know
and there are several posts in the viruses and worms section where users have USB related infections that MCShield have found and cured.

but I was worried as both Malwarebytes Pro and MC Shield have both Real Time scanning.
it works fine with malwarebytes ... and MCShield is not active, it sleep until you plug in a USB device then it wake up and does a quick scan

for info about how it works, see this topic.

red the posts from dr_bora. http://forum.avast.com/index.php?action=profile;area=showposts;u=379816

I have avast free, MBAM Pro and MC Shield with no ill affects. 8)

+1 me too

I asked this because there was malware that Avast didn’t detect. I tried scanning my stick twice and it shocked all the more because it said “No Threat Found”. Unfortunately I opened a file by mistake and was hit. Everything on the stick turns to shortcuts. That’s the reason I asked if MC Shield and Malwarebytes Pro would fight.
@Pondous
Thanks for the link. I can’t access the second one though. It says I’m not permitted in that area. Thanks again.

There is no way to tell not knowing the malware.
Give MC Shield a try you can get it here.

McShield is an ideal complement

Download McShield to your desktop and install
It will initially run a scan and show the result as a toaster by the system clock
Then in the control centre select scanner and tick unhide items on flash drives

Plug in the drive and McShield will start a scan

Then get the log which will be here :

Start > all programs > MCShield > logs > all scans

And post that

@Pondus Thanks for the link. I can't access the second one though. It says I'm not permitted in that area. Thanks again.
it was just a direct link to dr_boras posts .... anyway you find them all in that topic at first link ... but it is 13 pages now to browse true ;)

@EssexBoy. Here’s the file you requested.

OK that was infected and now cleaned

Lets now check the system out

Download OTL to your Desktop
Secondary link

[*]Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/73555776/OTL_Main_Tutorial.gif

[*]Select All Users
[*]Under the Custom Scan box paste this in

netsvcs
BASESERVICES
%SYSTEMDRIVE%*.exe
/md5start
services.*
explorer.exe
winlogon.exe
Userinit.exe
svchost.exe
/md5stop
dir “%systemdrive%*” /S /A:L /C
CREATERESTOREPOINT

[*]Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
[*]When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
[*]Attach both logs

Remember to add mcshield and malwarebytes in the avast global exclusion list. Also, add avast and mcshield also the ignore list of malwarebytes.

Before I did that, avast and mcshield simultaneously found an infected file in one of my flashdrives and boom avast won’t stop popping and either programs can’t remove the infection.

It seems like my PC’s dying. Just after the malware clean up, I uninstalled my Avast because my licence expired and installed Avast! Free. Then I installed Malwarebytes Pro and my system (until now) doesn’t respond. I can barely get to the start menu. It’s SOOOO slow now. Does it do the same on your machines?
