Best Safe Messenger?

If you decide on Trillian, Give their new Astra a try. I love it.

Trillian have the ASK Toolbar to install by default…

I’m still waiting for them to release the Ipod Touch/Iphone version to test…::slight_smile:

Always Official version of each messenger would more safe to use, but I vote for Pidgin for an alternative account which is supported by avast! too and also it covers all popular messenger accounts and update frequently to make it more secure and stable. it has so many plugins which make it more powerful.

I personally have been using Digsby for over a year now. Before that I was a Trillian user and had even paid for pro but whilst Trillian is stable I find it to cluttered and busy these days. Only problem with Digsby is that for some reason Avast does not support it in it’s list of IM clients.

Oh and please pay no attention to the Chicken Littles who ran around saying Digsby is evil just because they read it on LifeHacker. Digsby stopped using that particular installer at the start of October last year.

Why use a product that isn’t being checked by avast! when there are so many other reliable ones available that are ???
I personally like Trillion but there are many others.

@ carbonize

Read about Digsby that is rated by a fellow UK expert as bad:
http://hosts-file.net/?s=digsby.com&x=35&y=8 <== EMD - sites engaged in malware distribution

Want to get it removed then register and request it be removed.
Please submit sites to be removed from hpHOSTS to this thread including the reason for removal

I don’t think there is a safe messenger

I use Trillian

I stopped Digsby and Google Talk or Windows Live

I am waiting for a Facebook Messenger. Hope they develop one. 8)

From what I know, the latest Trillian Astra has a Facebook and Twitter chat support.

All the talk of Digsby coming with malware was related to an installer they stopped using a couple of months ago. Yes the programs that came with the installer were bad but you had the option to decline their installation. If memory serves all the new installer errr installs is the ask toolbar and wants to set your homepage and search engine to Google.

As I write this the HpHosts site is not working so I don’t even know what they are basing their information on. I have been using Digsby since 2008 on several machines running several anti virus and anti malware products. None of them have flagged Digsby at all.

@bob3160 - So because a program is not listed in Avast I should stop using it? That’s a narrow attitude.

@ carbonize: you’re not going to convince anyone here to use a software that’s been associated once with malware, clean or not now, they knew what they were doing then, as far as I’m concerned such people don’t even deserve to be mentioned, and their products should be blacklisted everywhere.

You do realise that Trillian was once accused of distibuting malware? Oh and Google has been accused of spyware since they set their cookie to expire in the dim and distant future.

If we are not prepared to forgive companies (and people) for their past mistakes then we live shallow lives. Did we all stop using Windows just because Microsoft made Windows ME? Did Mac users all stop using Apple products because Snow Leopard wiped all their personal data?

talking malware, ie strong spyware and adware here…accused and proven is not the same

The popular Digsby instant messenger client not only bundles half a dozen "optional" crapware applications, it's also using your computer to crawl the web, do stock market research, and more

forgive that ??? you must be kidding right ;D

I’ve suggest some twitter user used Digsby for Tweeting.
Now I’m interest it.

How old is Digsby?

They are still in beta. I was fed up so I moved to Trillian

Please stop living in the past and arm yourself with some up to date information. If we only went off old information then I wouldn’t be using Avast 5 due to Avast having missed a trojan on my computer a couple of years ago. I think I have answered it well enough here.

@ Ringman - Yes Digsby has Twitter support along with the inbuilt ability to shorten URLs and upload images for Tweeting.

@Chris Thomas - How long was ICQ in beta? How long were things like Gmail in beta? Actually I’m not sure if they are still in beta or not.

Please stop living in the past...

the past is six months old ::slight_smile:

Last thing I am going to say on this as you are getting boring.

Download Digsby now from the website and show me what malware it installs instead of showing screenshots and news stories relating to an installer they stopped using months ago.

boring is someone (you) insisting on making a point that has no chance to convince ::slight_smile:
