Best way of solving a False Positive problem

I need some help from the brain trust, as I’m getting very frustrated with a problem.

For over seven years I’ve run a program called EZ NEC v5.0 on my P.C. This is an engineering program for the electronic design of antennas used for transmission and receiving. The executable for this program is EZW.exe.

Recently, when I launch the program, AVAST reports that it finds it as Malware and places it in the Virus Vault. According to several posts, and the author, this is a “false positive” which AVAST should not be acting on. The author Roy Lewallen, w7el@eznec.com, apparently can not get anywhere with the folks at AVAST. I’ve tried getting someone’s attention by submitting the file in question for review, and I’ve tried writing to the folks at AVAST. Both efforts have lead to silence.

Meanwhile, I’m unable to use the antenna design program because AVAST won’t let it launch, which means I’m dead in the water and can’t do my work.

Mr. Lewallen’s only comment was to remove AVAST and get my money back, and install ESet (Nod32) anti-virus software, which along with other programs, does not see EZW.exe as a false positive.

In all my years of using PCs, I can’t recall a time when I’ve been more frustrated and mad because I feel like I’m being held hostage. It would be nice if AVAST and Mr. Lewallen could work together. Does anyone have any solution, or is the only recourse to bail from AVAST?
